Team Day is always one of our favorite days of the year!

We spent the day learning about AI ethics, putting our teamwork to the test with trivia, and finishing things off with a lot of laughs and friendly competition at Pelegros VR!

It’s always fun to step away from our usual routines, spend time together, and make memories outside the office. We’re already looking forward to next year!

We are excited to introduce two new faces at the firm!

Clay Lyons, CPA is our new Director of Operations. He brings experience at the intersection of operations, finance, technology, and process improvement, with a focus on helping organizations strengthen the systems and information that support sound decision-making and effective ex*****on. Clay’s background includes financial leadership, compliance, systems integrations, financial reporting, and process optimization.

Colin McFadden, CPA is our newest Senior Accountant. Colin specializes in family-owned and privately held businesses, primarily Entrepreneurial Services. He joined Meadows Urquhart because of the firm’s excitement to help their clients out as much as possible, as well as supporting their employees with their career goals.

Virginia is changing the way future certified public accountants (CPA) can become licensed, and the update is a meaningful one for students, accounting graduates, firms, and employers across the Commonwealth. As of Jan. 1, 2026, CPA candidates in Virginia will have more flexibility in how they combine education, exam completion, and professional experience on the path to licensure.

While small contractors have much more flexibility to choose an accounting method that works for them, large contractors are required to use a predetermined method for their construction contracts. Under IRC §460, large contractors generally must use the percentage-of-completion method, often called PCM, to report taxable income from long-term contracts.
