Helped a client save $6,000 in penalties this week that came over from a more tradiitonal accounting firm- not proactive, very reactive. They had called the IRS and asked the wrong questions and for the wrong year, to remove the penalty and were told no.

We called and asked the RIGHT questions and had done our research about it ahead of time, and the client can now expect a refund check coming their way soon.

🏈 Ready for kickoff! 🏈

Today we kicked off the season with a little office fun, including our annual Fantasy Football league. Congratulations again to last year's champion, Daniel, who now has a target on his back this season! Even Lucy got into the spirit and represented her team! 🐾

With the entrance of AI, the scammers are getting really good- add to that the fear most people feel when they get IRS notices and caution tends to go out the window. People click things they normally would't click and provide information they usually wouldn't give. (You need my social security number? Sure, why not! Banking info to verify my ID? Of course!).

Just because something looks like it comes from the IRS does not always mean it does. Your accountant should be a resource to you for this. See below straight from the IRS- be careful what you click!

📋 Corporate Extension Deadline Checklist: One Month to Go

If you filed an extension, now is the time to make sure everything is on track before September 15.

✅ Gather any missing tax documents
✅ Make sure your bookkeeping is up to date
✅ Send any requested information to your tax preparer
✅ Review draft returns promptly
✅ Sign authorization forms as soon as you receive them
✅ Confirm any tax payments have been addressed
✅ Verify your return is ready to be filed before the deadline

The businesses that have the smoothest September are usually the ones checking these items off in August. 😉

Don't wait until September 14 to discover you're missing a document, a signature, or an answer to a tax question.

📠 Fun tax fact: One of the most important forms for becoming an S Corporation is still submitted by mail or fax.

Yes... fax. In 2026. 😅

If you elected S corp status years ago but never received an IRS approval letter, it may be worth confirming everything was processed correctly. Sometimes "no news" is definitely not good news.
