The value of your investment could go down as well as up. You could get back less then you invested. Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage. Trusts are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

The retirement question I ask every doctor.

"What does retirement actually look like for you?"

Some want to stop completely at 60.
Some want to reduce sessions gradually.
Some never want to fully retire.

The NHS pension is flexible - but only if you plan for it.

Your answer to this question shapes everything else.

P.S. What does your ideal retirement look like?

Proud to be supporting Stafford Cricket Club for the upcoming season.

I spent many summers here growing up, so it’s great to be able to give something back to a club that holds so many good memories.

Wishing all the teams the very best for the season ahead 🏏

Bedtime routines and financial planning have more in common than you'd think.

With a 4-year-old and an 18-month-old, our evenings are... structured.

Bath. Stories. Milk. Bed. (Hopefully.)

And I've realised - building wealth works the same way:

→ Consistency beats intensity
→ Small habits compound over time
→ You won't see results immediately, but they come

The families who build wealth aren't doing anything dramatic. They're just showing up, again and again.

P.S. What's one financial habit you've stuck with?

A common myth about higher rate tax relief.

"I'm a higher rate taxpayer, so I automatically get 40% pension tax relief."

Not quite.

You get relief at your marginal rate, but only on income that's actually taxed at 40%.

If you earn £55,000, only £5,270 is taxed at 40% (2024/25).

The rest? 20%.

Understanding this changes how you plan contributions.

P.S. Has this ever caught you out?

Why I specialise in working with medical professionals.

Doctors, dentists, surgeons - they share something in common.

→ Complex income structures
→ Unique pension arrangements
→ High pressure careers with little time to plan
→ Big decisions that need making at the wrong moments

Generic advice doesn't cut it.

Understanding the profession makes the planning better.

P.S. What do you wish your financial adviser understood about your job?

The salary vs dividend question isn't as simple as people think.

Most business owners ask, "How much should I take as salary vs dividends?"

But the real question is: what are you actually trying to achieve?

→ Protecting pension allowances?

→ Maximising take-home pay?

→ Building wealth outside the business?

The "right" answer changes depending on your goals.

P.S. What's your biggest question about structuring your income?

What I wish I'd known before becoming a director.

Nobody prepares you for the shift.

One day you're focused on your clients. The next, you're thinking about:

→ Hiring decisions
→ Business strategy
→ Cash flow and growth
→ Team culture and development

It's a different job. And it took time to grow into it.

But I wouldn't change it. The learning never stops.

P.S. What's surprised you most about leadership?

5 tax allowances that reset every April (and most people forget at least one).

Every year, I see the same thing.

Business owners and high earners leave money on the table because they didn't use allowances before April 5th.

Here are the ones that catch people out most often:

→ ISA allowance (£20,000)

→ Capital gains annual exemption

→ Dividend allowance

→ Pension annual allowance

→ IHT gifting exemptions

None of these rolls over. Use them or lose them.

P.S. Which one do you always remember to use?

The value of your investment can go down as well as up. You could get back less than you invested.

Taxation rules can change at any time and are dependent on individual circumstances.
