The global minimum tax (GMT) – called an “agreement that will really change the world” – will be implemented in South Africa by SARS in 2026/27. While it may not impact your business directly, it should ultimately reduce your share of the tax burden by ensuring all multinational enterprises (MNEs) contribute their fair share of local taxes.

“I am pleased to share that I have successfully passed the Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC). This achievement represents the result of academic dedication, hands-on training, and a commitment to strengthening both my technical expertise and professional capability within my field.

It is incredibly rewarding to realise that all my hard work and effort have led to this moment. I am excited for the next chapter and what lies ahead. Being one step closer to qualifying as a CA(SA) is both motivating and fulfilling, and it is truly special to see my daily mantra, “It will end in CA(SA)”, unfolding into reality.

Baker Tilly Tuffias recently hosted our annual Wellness Day – a day that staff and partners look forward to all year.

The day started with a delicious smoothie bar, offering a variety of flavours to choose from, including Strawberry Surprise, Blueberry Vanilla Chai, Pineapple Banana, and Matcha Mint.

Throughout the day, staff were free to move around the office and chat with wellness partners. These included Investec, Multiply, CAMAF, dieticians from Core Nutrition, and an optometrist from Fresh Vision.

Staff also had the option to receive Vitamin B and flu shots, while fitness tests and health assessments kept the energy levels high.

The day ended with a bit of music and a fun 30-minute dance class hosted by Virgin Active. Lunch was yummy beef, chicken, or veggie wraps and drinks, giving everyone a chance to relax, chat, compare fitness results, and even enjoy a friendly game of snooker.

Overall, it was a fantastic day filled with wellness, connection, and a lot of fun.

The recent increases in the compulsory VAT registration threshold to R2.3 million and in the voluntary registration threshold to R120,000 are widely welcomed. It will certainly ease the administrative burden on small businesses and the strain on their cash flow.

Businesses that do not exceed the higher threshold on 1 April 2026 may apply to deregister for VAT. But be certain to rely on our expertise when making this decision, as it’s fraught with potentially costly consequences.

This milestone marks more than just another exam result — it reflects a period of discipline, pressure, and growth while continuing my journey as a CA(SA) trainee at Baker Tilly Tuffias.

This achievement is not the finish line, but a significant step forward. I remain committed to growing as a well-rounded professional — technically strong, principled in my approach and consistent in my standards, and able to add meaningful value in the environments I operate in.
