We came to meet investors. We left reminded that relationships are an investment, too.

Friday evening, My Grant CoPilot™ CTO Carlos Lopez and I attended the Ask an Angel event hosted by Escape Velocity Partners at The Hartford Club. 🚀

As founders building an AI-powered grant technology platform, we’re learning that growing a sustainable business takes more than great technology. It takes relationships, access to capital, mentorship, and opportunities to connect with people who challenge our thinking.

This homecoming means something personal. 💙

In 2006, I helped secure and managed a $1.225 million Mellon Foundation grant through a partnership between Cornell University Library and the HBCU Library Alliance to digitize HBCU founding documents.

That experience helped shape a career dedicated to elevating impact for underresourced communities.

Now, I’m returning with My Grant CoPilot™—bringing AI assistance and human expertise together to help small teams discover funding, prepare proposals, and manage application deadlines.

On Thursday, October 15, our founder Ira Revels and CTO Carlos Lopez joined the Connecticut Retail Network BIG Fall Event at the Bushnell Center in Hartford.

Tim Phelan, President of CRN, welcomed the room. NRF Chief Economist Mark Mathews walked through historical holiday sales growth. We also heard from Macy’s, Ryan Fazio and Sean Scanlon.

What stayed with us: 98% of Connecticut retail companies employ fewer than 50 people. Small teams make up this industry, and they are also the teams with the least time to chase funding.

That is the gap My Grant CoPilot is built for. We help small businesses and nonprofits find the right grant opportunities and build a strategy for pursuing them, drawing on more than two decades of grant-development experience behind $11 million in funding since 2001.
