Happy New Year and Happy Tax Season (almost)!

While the Fed has officially opened the season today, not all states are yet fully on-line. As we have in the past, we will officially open our season for appointments starting on February 21. Why the delay? A couple of points... this gives the IRS and states a chance to make sure all systems are up and running with lowered incident rates. Additionally, we can be better assured that our system is as up-to-date as possible regarding form and schedule updates that accompany most tax returns. Not to mention, the IRS is still dealing with a backlog from the last filing season. The IRS is warning that there may be delays processing tax returns and sending refunds this year. To receive yours in a timely manner, file early.

**IRS NEWS FLASH**

IRS Chief Charles Rettig said the IRS was grappling with 1,500 calls per second, and it's still trying to bring onboard more employees to shrink their backlog of tax returns. They are also working on bringing the system on-line to handle child tax credit payments. Click the link for all the details.
