Did you know the IRS tax code and regulations combined are estimated to be over 6,000 pages long!

To put that in perspective, that's roughly the length of reading "War and Peace" more than 4 times over! No wonder people call us instead of trying to figure it out themselves. 😄

We read the fine print so you don't have to — that's the job, and honestly, we kind of love it.

If you are a small business owner using QuickBooks and you are not fully confident in your numbers, a QuickBooks Checkup may be a good first step.

We review the file for common bookkeeping issues, reconciliation concerns, balance sheet red flags, and overall tax-readiness.

After the review, you receive a short written summary with key findings and recommended next steps.

If ongoing support makes sense, we can also discuss monthly bookkeeping and tax package options.

If you’d like to learn more, ask us about a QuickBooks Checkup.

🚗 Heads up, business owners — the IRS bumped the standard mileage rate again this year!

If you drive for business, you're now looking at two rates for 2026:
• Jan 1 – Jun 30: 72.5¢/mile
• Jul 1 – Dec 31: 76¢/mile

The mid-year jump was driven by rising fuel prices. If you're tracking mileage for a deduction or reimbursement, make sure your log splits miles before and after July 1 — using the wrong rate on the wrong half of the year is an easy mistake to make.

Not sure your mileage log would hold up if the IRS asked? We're happy to help you get it right. 📋

A QuickBooks cleanup and monthly bookkeeping are not the same thing.

Cleanup is usually about fixing what already happened — catching up reconciliations, correcting categories, fixing balances, and getting the file usable again.

Monthly bookkeeping is about keeping things current going forward.

Many businesses need cleanup first, then monthly support to avoid falling behind again.

The right starting point depends on the condition of the file.

If your books are only updated once a year for tax preparation, you may be missing one of the biggest benefits of bookkeeping: timely information.

Year-end cleanup may help get a tax return filed, but it does not help much with:

cash flow
pricing
estimated taxes
business decisions during the year

Current books give you a better chance to understand what is happening while there is still time to do something about it.

Payroll can create bookkeeping issues quickly if it is not recorded correctly.

Wages, payroll taxes, reimbursements, contractor payments, and payroll liabilities all need to land in the right place.

If payroll reports do not agree with QuickBooks, or payroll liabilities seem to hang around on the balance sheet, the books may need a closer look.

Payroll affects both the financial statements and the tax return — so it is worth getting right.

QuickBooks should help you understand your business, not make things more confusing.

Our QuickBooks Checkup is designed to review the overall condition of your file and identify common issues like:

unreconciled accounts
incorrect balances
uncategorized transactions
reports that may not be reliable

If your books only get reviewed at tax time, this can be a helpful way to get ahead of problems before they become a bigger issue.

Contact us at https://tripipeer.com if you’d like to ask whether a QuickBooks Checkup makes sense for your business.

Did you know? The One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act made it easier for small businesses to invest in growth. Most qualifying business property placed in service after January 19, 2025, is now eligible for a 100% first-year deduction. That means you may be able to fully expense new equipment or upgrades in the year you buy them! This can free up cash flow and simplify your tax planning.
