Your toilet paper tube is part of a much bigger story. After you put toilet paper tubes in the recycling bin, they’re picked up by a recycling truck, sorted at a MRF and sent to a paper mill. U.S. paper mills then transform them into new packaging, tissue products, and other everyday paper essentials. https://bit.ly/4j9FuMJ

Time is running out to weigh in on two proposals that could change how Americans receive important financial and health benefit information.

When a paper statement stops arriving, what happens if the notice is sent to an email account that isn't checked regularly, is difficult to access or wasn't even known to exist? That's a real concern for millions of Americans who rely on paper communications.

Older Americans, people in rural areas and others without reliable internet access could be disproportionately affected by proposed SEC and DOL rules that would make electronic delivery the default.

Americans already have the option to choose electronic delivery. These proposals could make it harder for those who depend on paper to continue receiving important information in the way that works best for them.

Today is the last day to make your voice heard. Public comments close at 11:59 p.m. tonight.

If this proposal could affect you, your family or your community, submit a comment to the SEC and DOL before the deadline. Take action now: https://bit.ly/3SSsfFs

How do you prefer to receive important financial and health information?

If your answer is "in my mailbox," you're not alone.

For 30 years, many financial companies and health benefit administrators have needed your approval before they can stop sending important financial or health documents by mail and switch to electronic delivery.

Now, 2 federal agencies want to change that.

Under proposed Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) and Department of Labor (DOL) rules, electronic delivery would become the default. And companies wouldn’t have to ask for your permission first. You would have to ask to get paper statements again.

For many Americans, especially seniors, paper statements and notices aren't just a preference. They're a trusted way to stay informed, manage finances and avoid online scams.

This is a decision about whether you want to continue to receive paper automatically, or if you will have to go ask for it back. You deserve the right to continue receiving critical information in the mail that affects your money, retirement and health coverage.

Tell the SEC and DOL how this would impact you. They’re asking for comments, and the comment period closes September 21. Add your voice today. https://bit.ly/3SSsfFs

You've probably seen the warnings before:
Don't click suspicious links.
Don't open unexpected emails.
Be careful when sharing personal information online.

Yet 2 federal agencies are considering proposals that would make electronic delivery the default for important financial and health documents.

That means more people could receive emails directing them to click a link to access retirement statements, investment information or health coverage documents. It's the same type of online activity consumer protection agencies and fraud prevention experts have spent years warning people to approach with caution.

With phishing scams and identity theft continuing to affect millions of Americans, many people value the security and certainty of receiving important documents through the mail.

For 30 years, you've had a choice. Paper statements were the default, and you could choose digital. Now is your chance to speak up about keeping that choice.

The public comment period closes September 21. Tell the SEC and DOL how this change would affect you, a family member or your community. https://www.protectpaperchoice.org/

For 30 years, Americans with investment accounts or retirement funds automatically receive their important financial communications by mail or opt into electronic delivery.

The SEC's proposed Regulation E-Delivery rule would fundamentally change that framework by making electronic delivery the default, without your consent.

What could that mean for investors, older Americans, rural communities and others who rely on mailed communications?

We broke down what would change, the potential implications and why the SEC needs to reconsider their proposal. https://bit.ly/3SSImCW

For many older Americans, checking a retirement statement in the mailbox is a familiar and trusted part of managing their finances.

That's why we're raising concerns about the SEC's proposed Regulation E-Delivery rule. Under the proposal, financial institutions could send sensitive documents like retirement statements electronically by default–without asking for permission first.

That change could increase the risk for phishing attempts and other scams, particularly for older Americans who are frequently targeted by scammers.

Around 80% of U.S. paper mills use recycled paper as part of making new products. Paper manufacturers invest every day to move collected paper back to mills, process it in pulpers and turn it into new boxes, tissue, pulp, paper and packaging people rely on. This ongoing commitment is what helps keeps paper recycling strong in the United States. https://bit.ly/3HX8GA0

250 years of America. 250 years of paper evolving alongside the nation.

It recorded the ideas that founded our nation. It moved news, ledgers and ideas across a growing country. Today it shows up in hospital supplies, classrooms, grocery stores, homes and the packaging that keeps American commerce moving.

From the first American paper mill to modern manufacturing in communities across the U.S., paper has kept pace with what Americans need.

The next 250 years will demand the same: innovation, high-quality jobs and essential products made here at home. https://bit.ly/4uN8vjt
