Here's what you need to know

Ask anyone who smokes brisket or pork shoulder, and they'll tell you: the worst thing you can do is rush it.

You prep the meat, season it right, then let it sit low and slow for hours. Crank the heat to speed things up, and you'll end up with something tough and dry. But give it time and patience, and that same tough cut turns into something amazing.

Here's the part most people don't expect though: at some point, the internal temperature just...stalls. It can sit there for hours, seemingly going nowhere, no matter how good your fire is. Pitmasters know the fix isn't to panic, it's to wrap the meat and let it push through.

Financial planning has its own version of the stall.
🔥 The prep = getting a clear picture of your income, expenses, and goals
🔥 The low and slow = consistent saving and investing, year after year
🔥 The stall = a market downturn, a rough year, a stretch where progress feels invisible
🔥 The wrap = adjusting your approach, staying protected, and trusting the process instead of panicking

There's no way to rush your way to financial security. It's built low, slow, and yes, sometimes stalled, but worth the wait.

If you're ready to start "prepping the meat" on your financial future, let's talk. đź’¬

The ten years that deserve extra attention.

10/17/2026

I recently had a meaningful planning conversation with a couple preparing to retire within the next five years.

Their question: "We've saved carefully…now how do we use this money with purpose?"

They'd been maxing out their retirement accounts, putting extra money toward their mortgage each month, and quietly building up savings on the side. When we ran the numbers, they were surprised to find out they'd already hit, and passed their original savings goal.

So we shifted the conversation from "Do we have enough?" to "What do we want our money to actually do?"

Together we mapped out their future income, talked about ways to build philanthropy into their plan, and discussed why having their estate documents in order matters.

The takeaway: money does the most good when it moves from just being saved to being used with intention.

If you're wondering how your savings could start working toward what matters most to you, let's talk. đź’¬

Why hermit crabs are a good metaphor for your financial life

Hermit crabs don't grow a bigger shell. They outgrow the one they're in and then leave it behind, exposed and vulnerable, until they find one that fits who they've become.

I see this with clients all the time. A career change. A retirement. An empty nest. A divorce. The plan that worked five years ago doesn't fit anymore, and not because it failed, but because you grew.

The instinct is to stay in the old shell. It's familiar, even if it's cramped. Moving means a stretch of feeling exposed.
But the crabs that don't move don't grow. They just get squeezed.

Good financial planning isn't a structure you build once and live in forever. It's a series of right-sized shells, rebuilt as you change. The goal isn't to avoid the transition. It's to make sure that when you're between shells, you have a plan that fits who you're becoming.

If your old plan doesn't fit anymore, let's build the next one.

Had a great planning session recently with two clients in their mid-50s, a former restaurant manager now working in logistics, and a photographer who teaches pottery on the side. Both work remote, paying college tuition bills for their youngest kid, and both came in with the same honest question: "Are we actually on track, or are we just hoping?"

We spent the session building out a real 10-year plan:✅ What happens if one of them loses their job at 65?✅ How to use Roth conversions wisely in the years before retirement✅ A future home sale that could help fund a passion project down the road
By the end, you could feel the difference in the room…less worry, more clarity, and a real sense that freedom is possible, not just a someday idea.
If you're in your 50s or 60s and want to know where you actually stand, let's talk. đź’¬
