Did you know employers are required by federal law to provide nursing employees with break time and a private, non-bathroom space to pump breast milk? That's thanks to the PUMP Act, and it applies to ALL employees, regardless of status or hours worked, for one year after the birth of a child.

Here's a quick recap of what's required:
A private space (not a bathroom) that's shielded from view and free from intrusion.

Reasonable break time whenever a nursing employee needs it.

Compensation during pumping breaks if the employee is using an already-paid break period.

State and local laws may add even more protections, so always check what applies in your area.

And if you want to go above and beyond? Offer a mini fridge, a comfortable and quiet space, or even cover pump break time when it's not required. Small gestures go a long way.
