Most taxpayers have no idea this refund opportunity still exists.

If you paid IRS penalties or interest during the COVID years, you may still have time to file a claim and potentially recover some of those costs.

Recent court rulings have raised questions about whether certain IRS penalties and interest should have been charged during the federally declared disaster period.

✔ Failure-to-file penalties
✔ Failure-to-pay penalties
✔ IRS interest charges

The important part?
Refunds are NOT automatic — action is required.

🗓 Deadline to file a protective claim: July 10, 2026

If you’re unsure whether this applies to you, a quick review could help uncover eligibility.

💭 One of the most common questions I get:

"Do I really need to pay quarterly taxes?"

The answer depends on how you earn your income, but for many freelancers, business owners and self-employed professionals, the answer is YES.

Waiting until tax season to pay can lead to unexpected tax bills, penalties, and a lot of stress. Quarterly tax payments help you stay ahead, avoid surprises and keep more control over your cash flow throughout the year.

Not sure if quarterly taxes apply to you?

Drop a comment below or send me a message, and let's make sure you're staying compliant while avoiding unnecessary penalties.

Everyone talks about the “G Wagon tax write-off” like it’s free money 👀

The strategy usually sounds like this:

Heavy SUV → big depreciation deduction → lower taxes 💰

And yes… that can work under Section 179 and bonus depreciation.

But here’s what most business owners DON’T think about👇

When you eventually sell the G Wagon, the IRS may “recapture” the depreciation you claimed and tax part of the gain as ordinary income. 💸

So the real question isn’t:
“Can I write it off?”

It’s:
“Does this actually make financial sense long-term?”

A tax deduction doesn’t automatically mean a smart purchase.

Run the numbers. Understand the exit strategy. Talk to your CPA before buying the luxury SUV just for the write-off.

Most importantly, ask yourself is this an ordinary and necessary purchase for “your” business…because the IRS will be the judge.

Tax planning doesn't happen after the purchase, let's talk and run the numbers.

Filing an extension is just step one. 1️⃣

Step two? That’s where most people drop the ball…

It’s not pretending October is forever away and hoping your return somehow becomes easier by then.

Your tax documents won’t magically organize themselves.

If you filed an extension because things weren’t ready, here’s your next move:

→ Make a list of every document you’re still missing.

Need to follow up with someone? Start now, don’t delay.

→ If messy bookkeeping slowed you down, create a plan to catch up.

Will a few focused weekends do the trick? Or is it time to bring in a bookkeeper? 📚

Whatever you choose, just don’t push this off until October again.

Because although you get more time to file; if you owe the bill starts growing after April 15th until you pay.

The future you will thank you.

A few minutes now can save you stress later.

A lot of business owners hear about the G-Wagon tax write-off and think:
heavy SUV = big deduction = lower taxes

And yes! Bonus depreciation can create huge upfront savings.

But here’s the part many people don’t plan for 👇

When you eventually sell that vehicle, the IRS may “recapture” some of the depreciation you claimed… and tax it as ordinary income.

So the tax savings today could create a tax bill later.

A write-off doesn’t automatically mean something is free; strategy still matters.

That’s why tax planning should go beyond viral TikTok advice. 🚗

Business owners: a profitable business can still lose money if your tax setup isn’t working for you. 💸

The right entity structure, accurate bookkeeping, and proactive tax strategy can make a huge difference in how much you keep.

Sole proprietorships, LLCs, and S corps are all taxed differently — which is why cookie-cutter tax prep usually isn’t enough.

You need a strategy built for your business, not just a return filed once a year. 📚

⚠️ Michigan Taxpayers: Watch Out for Erroneous Refund Checks & Tax Notices

The Michigan Department of Treasury has reportedly sent incorrect “Notices of Adjustment” and even erroneous tax refund checks to some taxpayers during the 2025 tax season.

According to reports, around 27,000 Michigan taxpayers may have received incorrect notices showing either:

•a smaller refund, or
•additional taxes owed.

Some taxpayers have also unexpectedly received paper refund checks that may have been issued by mistake.

🚨 Important:
If you receive a suspicious or unexpected Michigan state tax refund check, DO NOT cash or deposit it until you verify it with the Michigan Treasury or your tax professional.

The Michigan Association of CPAs (MICPA) is currently working with the Treasury Department to better understand the issue and determine how widespread the problem may be.

✔️ What you should do:
Review any Michigan Treasury letters carefully
Compare notices with your filed tax return
Contact your CPA or tax preparer if something looks wrong
Avoid cashing unexpected refund checks until confirmed legitimate

This appears to be a processing error affecting a limited group of taxpayers, but it’s important to stay alert.

Please share this to help other Michigan residents avoid potential tax problems.
