The OBBBA 2026 did move the mandatory contractor reporting threshold up to $2,000.

But please, don’t misunderstand the rule. Just because you don’t receive a Form 1099-NEC doesn’t mean you’re off the hook. The IRS still expects every single penny you pay out to be documented exactly.
