With the October 15th deadline looming for extended filers, rumors have begun to circulate about what the Government shutdown means for taxpayers. While this is a fluid situation, we know the following:

On October 8, 2025, the IRS furloughed approximately half of its workforce.

No tax deadlines have been adjusted. Taxes are still due by October 15th for extended filers.

The IRS is still processing tax payments with no change to due dates or terms.

You may experience slower processing of returns and refunding of balances. Telephone assistance from the IRS will also be slow or unavailable.

The electronic filing of tax returns is still ongoing without interruption.

As always, clients should feel free to reach out to Tilghman Tax with any questions or concerns. Stay tuned, as we will announce any changes discovered.

If you filed an extension for a corporate or partnership tax return the clock is ticking! Due on September 15, 2025, these extensions have less than a month to file. ⏰

Don’t be late! The IRS charges over $245 per shareholder / per month late. And they are very good at collecting penalties. 👮‍♀️
