Markets at all-time highs. Inflation at 3.8%. Oil above $100. A war that closed the Strait of Hormuz. A new Fed Chair sworn in just days ago.

2026 has been an uncomfortable year for investors — and yet the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 are sitting near record highs, coming off eight consecutive weeks of gains.
That's not a coincidence. It's a pattern.

With 94% of S&P 500 companies having reported Q1 results, 84% have beaten earnings estimates — above both the five-year and ten-year averages. Revenue growth is broad, with all eleven sectors reporting year-over-year gains. Net profit margins are at their highest level since FactSet began tracking the metric in 2009.

The fundamental case for equities is solid. The headlines are loud. History suggests the two don't have to move together.

Twenty-two years. One extraordinary team.

Legacy Private Trust Company recently celebrated our 22nd anniversary and what a milestone it was. We gathered at North Shore Golf Club to reflect on how far we've come, recognize the people who make Legacy what it is, and look ahead with real excitement.

This year, we reached our highest assets under management in company history, a testament to the trust our clients place in us every day and the dedication of every member of this team.

We also had the honor of presenting our inaugural Fundamentals of Fame awards, recognizing team members who live our Legacy by Design culture fundamentals:

🏆 President's Award: Connor O'Brien
🏆 Legacy by Design Award: Trinity Maurice
🏆 Living the Legacy: Nate Hochholzer
🏆 Fundamentals in Focus: Rachel Wolf

And a heartfelt congratulations to Barb Blashka and Tammy Ross on 20 years with Legacy. Your dedication is the very foundation of what we've built.

The strength of this firm has always come from its people. Here's to 22 years and everything still ahead.

âś” Hold a JD, CPA, CTFA, or similar credentials (or are well on your way)
âś” Know your way around probate, fiduciary taxes, and trust accounting platforms like TrustDesk
âś” Take real ownership of your work and sweat the details so clients do not have to

A family limited partnership, or FLP, can be a powerful estate planning tool—but it is not just for families who own a business.

3 Things to Know:

1. An FLP can help transfer wealth while preserving control
With an FLP, assets such as a family business, real estate, investments, or other property can be placed into a partnership. The senior generation may retain management control as general partners while gradually transferring limited partnership interests to children or other family members.

2. It may reduce the size of a taxable estate
Transferring FLP interests can remove the value of the underlying assets from a taxable estate. Because limited partnership interests typically have restricted control and limited marketability, they may also qualify for valuation discounts for gift tax purposes.

3. It requires careful structure and ongoing oversight
An FLP must be properly established, operated, and maintained. Legal and tax expertise, administrative oversight, and adherence to partnership formalities are essential—especially if the strategy is ever reviewed by the IRS.

Why this matters:
An FLP can support wealth transfer, potential tax planning, income shifting, and asset protection goals. But the benefits depend heavily on how the partnership is structured and maintained.

Estate planning strategies should not be selected in isolation. They should be coordinated with your broader family, tax, and legacy goals.

Fox Valley Memory Project - Living Life Gala

These organizations are doing important work for individuals and families in our community, and we’re honored to play a small part in helping advance their missions.

We’re grateful for the chance to support events like these and the people behind them who make a lasting impact every day.

Your HSA is not just a healthcare tool—it is an estate asset.

3 Things to Know:

1. It is one of the most tax-efficient accounts available
Contributions may be pretax, growth is tax-deferred, and qualified medical withdrawals are tax-free.

2. It can quietly become a meaningful legacy asset
Unused balances roll over indefinitely and can accumulate significant value over time.

3. Who inherits it determines the tax outcome
Spouse beneficiaries maintain the tax advantages.
Non-spouse beneficiaries may face immediate taxation on the full value.

Why this matters:
Without proper beneficiary planning, one of the most tax-efficient assets you own can become one of the most tax-inefficient for your heirs.

Our perspective:
If you have an HSA, it should be intentionally coordinated with your estate plan—not treated as an afterthought.
