For Republican voters, I understand the temptation to not vote for either candidate for Insurance Commissioner. Sitting this race out is not a protest. It is a gift to Jane Kim. Every conservative who skips this contest moves her one step closer to a government takeover of California's insurance market, and that is a vote for socialism by another name. Her proposals are deeply problematic and would blow up the insurance market and transfer risk to taxpayers.

My comments on the Insurance Commissioner’s Race in Politico this week. Here is my full statement:
Republicans can’t afford to sit this race out. The next Insurance Commissioner’s decisions will affect every homeowner, small business, and family in California. Jane Kim’s plan would deepen the insurance crisis by offering a government-run program. Her proposal transfers risk from private enterprise to all California taxpayers; it removes the market forces and innovation that improve product quality for consumers. Her plan is not feasible and risks bankrupting the state. People will pay more and have less coverage availability—like what we are experiencing now but this burden will fall on taxpayers during an affordability crisis. Republican voters have influence in this race and not voting for this office is a gift to Jane Kim’s socialist agenda. Socialism is never the answer.

“One ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” is a saying published by Benjamin Franklin in the Pennsylvania Gazette in 1735 on the topic of protecting their town from fires.

Even then, he knew that taking small steps to prevent a problem before it starts often results in less catastrophic outcomes. This nugget of wisdom still applies nearly 300 years later.

Your County’s Fire Safe Council is a really important resource as we talk about wildfire safety and prevention. I sit on the Board of the San Luis Obispo County Fire Safe Council and am always proud of the resources we are able to distribute to organizations who are making a real difference.

CA should be the land of abundance, and that includes insurance. Until we mitigate our fire risk, have proper water management, reduce crime and allow free markets back in CA all we will see is "limited" offerings.

The two companies, which pulled back from issuing policies in the state after a series of destructive wildfires, have new coverage proposals.

I was so inspired by the candidates and thought leaders I heard at the Beverly Hills Freedom Rally. I encourage anyone reading this to give your vote to candidates who can help us change course in CA.
