The IRS issued a new release (IR-2021-130) announcing two new online tools to help families manage Child Tax Credit payments. The American Rescue Plan increased the maximum Child Tax Credit amount in 2021 to $3,600 per child for children under the age of 6 and to $3,000 per child for children ages 6 to 17. Eligible families will begin receiving these payments in July unless they decide to opt out of the advanced payment and instead elect to receive the credit when they file their 2021 tax return. Please visit the article below to learn more about the portal to opt-out and the new tool for those non-filers wishing to register to receive the advance.

. We have been receiving a lot of questions recently regarding the new Hurricane Relief Tax Credit that was signed into law on October 2nd.

Here is some basic information on who qualifies:

• Your business was closed or made inoperable by Hurricane Harvey in some way during the time period for August 23, 2017, through January 1, 2018.
• Your business was closed or made inoperable by Hurricane Irma in some way during the time period for September 4, 2017, through January 1, 2018.
• You continued pay your employees during that time you were closed.

Once you have identified if you or your client are eligible for the Tax Credit, then here’s how you calculate how much credit are due:

• Take up to $6000 in eligible wages paid out during the time period mentioned above (while the business was closed) and multiple it by 40%.
• Max tax credit is $2400 per employee.
