Myth – If you don’t receive a 1099 or W2, you do not have to file a return or pay taxes.
This is false! Even if the employer fails to send your W2, the employee is still responsible for reaching out to the employer to secure one. Even if no W2 or 1099 was received, the income must be reported to the IRS when filing your tax return.

Tax Myth: If you file an extension, you can wait until the extended due date to pay your taxes.

Many people think that filing an extension gives them more time to pay their taxes, but this is not the case. An extension only gives you more time to file your tax return. If you owe taxes, payment is still due by the original deadline (usually April 15). If you delay payment, the IRS may charge penalties and interest on the tax due – even if you filed a timely extension!
