UNPOPULAR OPINION: A lot of "mental health issues" disappear when bills are paid, rent is secure, and the fridge is full. Peace is expensive. And pretending money doesn't affect mental health is privilege.

I say this often...
Your yearly salary, bank account balance, home equity, inheritance received etc... that is YOUR personal financial business.
Mother, father, siblings, grandmother and so on.... DO NOT need access to that information. If you have family or close friend you trust to share with, then maybe lol 🤷🏾‍♂️

Then people wonder why they are the ones always being asked for monetary assistance 🤦🏾‍♂️

Most Americans don’t realize they’re doing better than they think because they’re too busy comparing themselves to people who are broke with better lighting. The average household income is around $80,000, the median checking and savings balance is about $8,000, and Americans are only saving around 3.6% of their disposable income. So when you have money saved, manageable debt, and you’re not financing your entire personality with a car payment, you’re probably ahead of more people than you realize. The problem is social media has convinced everyone that winning means luxury vacations, designer crap, and a driveway full of payments. Real wealth doesn’t need to impress strangers. Real wealth gives you options, breathing room, and the ability to sleep at night while everyone else is pretending they’re rich.

If you have a young adult in your life who just landed a full-time job, here is something very important they may not understand yet:

A workplace retirement match is free money. But many employees are automatically enrolled at a contribution rate that is too low to earn the maximum company match.

That means they could unknowingly be leaving money behind.

A quick check-in with HR or Benefits can fix that. Help them make sure they are contributing enough to get every dollar their employer is willing to match.

Small decisions early in life can make an enormous difference later on.

The first $100,000 is not just about the money, because by the time you get there, something changes in the way you see yourself. You no longer feel like you are just trying to get by, hoping things work out, or constantly playing defense with your finances. You start to realize that you are capable of building something bigger, that your habits are working, and that your future is not completely out of your control.
