Here's why we start with a story instead of a worksheet.

A kid who fills out a money worksheet forgets it by Friday. A kid who feels a money moment, through a character they love, in a situation they recognize, remembers it.

That's the whole idea behind Money-Mind Adventures. The lesson rides in on the story, so it actually lands. Then a simple home system gives you the language to carry it into real life - the checkout line, the "can I have it?" moment, the question that comes out of nowhere.

Information delivered once doesn't become behavior. A story your kid connects with, plus a routine your family repeats; that's what builds a money mind.

Let me share my story with you today.

I grew up with money tension — raised mostly by a single mom in a household where money was tight and rarely talked about. Not because she didn't care, but because no one had ever taught her either.

I figured it out the hard way: as a single mom raising two kids and building a business from scratch.

And along the way I got obsessed with one question: why is money STILL so awkward to talk about with our kids? Most of us never got the words — so we either avoid the conversation, or we accidentally pass down the same stress we grew up with.

That's why I created Money-Mind Adventures. So the next generation gets a different story than the one we inherited. 🌱

Start here: the free Money-Mind Quickstart — a 15-minute setup and a simple first-week plan to make money a calm, normal conversation at home.

Tonight I'm joining Foster Champs of Washington for a private session of In the Thick of It — their ongoing support program for foster, adoptive, kinship, and at-risk youth and families. Tonight's conversation is focused on money, parenting, and helping families build healthy financial habits at home. ❤️

Foster Champs of Washington is a nonprofit that supports foster, adoptive, kinship, and at-risk youth and families by helping bridge the gap between what the system provides and what families actually need. Through community support, family gatherings, resources, and real conversations, FCOW works to remind families they are not alone. 🌱

In the Thick of It brings caregivers together around the topics families are actually walking through — finances tonight, but the program covers many of the real-life pressures foster, kinship, and adoptive families navigate. The team hopes to bring it back publicly in the fall as a podcast and community conversation, which I'm genuinely excited to see take shape.

The work this team does — quietly, consistently, and with so much heart — is the kind of thing that actually changes families. And it's the kind of organization more people should know about.

If you live in Washington — or know foster, kinship, adoptive, or blended families anywhere — go follow Foster Champs of Washington Public Page and check out the work they're doing.

The hardest money moments rarely happen at the kitchen table. ❤️

They happen at the checkout line. In the toy aisle. In the car when “everyone else has one.”

That's why I love the Pause–Notice–Choose tool:

✨ Pause — one shared breath.
✨ Notice — “What are you feeling right now?”
✨ Choose — “Is this a want or a need?”

Small. Repeatable. Works on real days with real kids. 🪙

Save this for your next “but can I PLEASE…” moment.

A calm money home doesn't look like a perfect spreadsheet on the fridge. ❤️

It looks like:

🌱 Money being a normal topic, not a secret or a tense one.
🌱 Mistakes treated as practice, not punishment.
🌱 A small weekly rhythm everyone in the family knows is coming.
🌱 Kids using words like “want,” “need,” “save,” “wait” — and not flinching from them.
🌱 Parents who can say “I don't know yet, let me think about it” instead of overreacting or freezing.

That's not Pinterest. That's real life, made simpler. 🪙

And here's the part most parents don't hear enough: it doesn't take a finance degree to get there. It takes a system small enough to actually use on tired days.

I've been building exactly that. It's simple. It's free. And it goes live Monday morning.

Save this post — then come back Monday. ✨

Quick check-in — I want to hear from you. ❤️

What's the ONE money conversation with your kid you wish came easier?

The “we can't afford that” moment at the store?
The “why does THEY get more stuff than me” comparison?
The teen who wants something out of budget and you don't know how to say no without it turning into a fight?
The chore-money or allowance question you've been low-key dreading?

Drop it in the comments!

No judgment here. We're all figuring it out together.

Hi, I’m Geannie. ❤️

I’m a mom, business owner, and someone who learned about money through real life, real struggles, and a lot of figuring things out as I went.

Over the years, I realized something important:

Most parents want to teach their kids healthy money habits… but many of us were never shown how ourselves.

So money becomes stressful, emotional, confusing, or something we avoid talking about altogether.

That’s why I created Money-Mind Adventures.

My goal is to help families raise kids and teens with a healthy, shame-free relationship with money through story-based learning, simple home systems, and real-life conversations that actually feel doable.

Because financial literacy should feel empowering, not overwhelming.

This is about more than budgeting.
It’s about confidence. Communication. Generational change. And helping kids grow up feeling capable instead of fearful when it comes to money.

If that’s the kind of future you want for your family too, you’re in the right place. 🌱💸
