The expansion of 1099 reporting requirements has, thankfully, been repealed. The new law returns 1099-Misc reporting to what it used to be: reporting rents, and other not-for-services income. This was one of the rare times that taxpayers' outcry - and a huge number of phone calls and emails - actually was effective at changing law at the federal level. WA States increased compliance regulations for small businesses have gotten totally out of hand and are literally putting them out of business. Senator Ranker has requested the I assist him in potential legislation to address this situation in and effective way. I would love to hear from the small businesses on their biggest challenges in dealing with State requirements.

Business mileage rates will be going up to 55 cents per mile as of July 1st (from 50 cents) - make sure you separate your business mileage out for the first six months. IRS loves to audit mileage logs.

I just read a great Article on how to "realistically" consider starting your own business if you have been unemployed for a long time. At a minimum, you should be logging into every possible free webinar that you may be able to learn from. I don't know of any location that does not need more bookkeepers for example - will post more on website.
