Think a safety violation is expensive?

The citation may only be the beginning.

For 2026, federal OSHA penalties can reach $16,550 per serious violation and $165,514 per willful or repeated violation.

Then there can be costs that don't show up on the citation:

Lost productivity.
Workers’ comp.
Legal expenses.
Training and corrective action.
Reputational damage.

A safety gap is much cheaper to find before an inspector or an injury finds it for you.

When did you last take a fresh look at your safety practices?

You’re down two employees.

The schedule is barely covered.

Then an FMLA request lands on your desk.

Now what?

Staffing pressure doesn’t make leave management disappear. And making decisions while you’re stressed, short staffed and trying to cover shifts is exactly when mistakes can happen.

The solution starts before the request arrives.

Have a process for eligibility, documentation, communication and coverage so you aren’t figuring it out in real time.

Short staffed or not, your process still needs to hold up.

Seasonal hiring moves fast. That's the whole point of it. But speed is exactly where compliance gaps sneak in, especially with classification, I-9s, and onboarding.

We put together a full guide covering what actually changes (and what doesn't) when you're hiring seasonal staff: how to tell if someone's really an employee or a contractor, what to check if you're hiring workers under 18, how returning seasonal employees affect your I-9 paperwork, and a repeatable onboarding checklist that keeps things moving without cutting corners.

If your seasonal hiring process has been more "figure it out as we go" than an actual plan, this one's worth a read before your next hiring push.

💬 Ask Gro: "Do I really need to fill out I-9 forms for seasonal employees? They're only here for a few months."

Short answer: yes, every single one.

I-9 verification isn't tied to how long someone's going to work for you. It's tied to the fact that they're on payroll at all, even for six weeks over the holidays.

Skipping it because someone's "just seasonal" is one of the most common mistakes we see during a hiring push, and it's an easy one for a fine to catch up with you on.

Build I-9 verification into your seasonal onboarding from day one, not as an afterthought once things get busy.

January hiring starts in January…right?

Not exactly.

Your future candidates may already be checking out companies, watching job openings, updating resumes and thinking about their next move.

So while you might not be hiring yet, you can still be recruiting.

Stay visible. Show people what it’s like to work for you. Reconnect with strong past applicants. Build your reputation before you need applications.

Because when someone finally clicks Apply, you want your company to already feel familiar.

Don’t start building your pipeline when you need it. Build it before you need it.

Payroll is running. Everyone is getting paid. So everything must be fine…right?

Not necessarily.

Overtime calculations, employee classifications, timekeeping and recordkeeping can create risk when pay practices aren’t reviewed regularly.

And the frustrating part?

You often don’t realize there’s a problem until an employee raises one.

A proactive payroll and wage-and-hour review is a lot easier than fixing an issue after the fact.

When was the last time someone took a close look at your pay practices?

Quick question:

Does your front desk team know exactly what they can and can’t say about a patient?

What about billing? Scheduling? New hires?

Patient information moves through more hands than most practices realize, which means HIPAA training can’t stop with your clinical staff.

A policy buried in a handbook won’t protect patient information.

A team that actually understands the policy will.

When was the last time your entire staff had HIPAA training?

“But they signed a contractor agreement.”

That alone doesn’t settle it.

The IRS looks at the actual working relationship between your business and the worker, including behavioral control, financial control and the nature of the relationship.

As the IRS puts it: “The substance of the relationship, not the label, governs the worker’s status.”

Misclassification can leave a business responsible for employment taxes and create a much bigger headache than getting it right from the start.

What exactly is fractional HR? And is it right for your business?

If HR has become too much to handle on the side, but hiring a full-time HR person doesn't make sense yet, fractional HR might be the middle ground you're looking for.

Our new guide breaks down what fractional HR actually means, what a fractional HR professional can handle, who benefits most from the model, how it compares to an HR consultant or full-time employee, and what it typically costs.

If your business is growing and your HR needs are growing with it, this one's for you. 👇
