I took a leap of faith recently — and it started with admitting something uncomfortable.

I’ve had my own accounting and tax business since 2010. For years, I told myself that keeping it running was enough. Revenue was coming in. Clients were returning. On paper, things looked fine.

But I wasn’t growing. I was showing up hard during tax season and going quiet the rest of the year. No real client development. No relationship building outside of April. No investment in the business I’d spent over a decade building.

The truth? I was getting in my own way.

As an accountant, it’s easy to hide behind the numbers — to measure success by what’s sustaining instead of what’s possible. I got comfortable in a cycle that felt safe but wasn’t moving me forward.

Until recently.

I made a decision to stop coasting and start building — intentionally, year-round, not just when deadlines demanded it.

Sometimes the biggest obstacle to your growth isn’t the market, the competition, or the economy.

The stock market wrapped up its worst quarter since 2022, and volatility is still running high. Oil prices have surged nearly 50% since late February, pushing inflation concerns front and center. Until global energy markets stabilize, expect the market to keep swinging.
Nike took a major hit this week, dropping 10% after analyst downgrades from JPMorgan, Bank of America, and Goldman Sachs. Tesla slipped 5.4% following a disappointing sales quarter. On the flip side, IBM led the Dow gainers, climbing 2%.
