Ignoring unfiled tax returns does not make the IRS forget about you.

It may be quiet for a while.

But quiet does not always mean safe.

Let’s talk to my 1099 workers for a second.

Being self-employed or receiving a 1099 does not automatically mean your tax situation is hopeless.

Yes, 1099 income needs to be reported.

Yes, taxes may be owed depending on the situation.

But what a lot of people forget is that business expenses matter too.

If you had legitimate expenses connected to earning that income, those expenses may help reduce your taxable income.

The problem is, many 1099 workers get scared before they even sit down with a tax professional.

So instead of filing, they avoid it.

Then one year turns into two.
Two turns into four.
And eventually, the IRS starts taking action.

Don’t let fear make the decision for you.

Just because your friend owed taxes does not mean you owe taxes.

Your tax return is based on your income, your expenses, your filing status, your dependents, your credits, and your records.

Not theirs.
