New UK Minimum Wage Rates (Effective April 1, 2027)

• National Living Wage (21 and over): Rises to £13.21 per hour (an increase of 50p or 3.9%).

• 18–20 Year Old Rate: Rises to £11.27 per hour (an increase of 42p or 3.9%).

• 16–17 Year Old Rate: Rises to £8.31 per hour (an increase of 31p or 3.9%).

• Apprentice Rate: Rises to £8.31 per hour (an increase of 31p or 3.9%, applying to under-19s or those in the first year of an apprenticeship).

An extra 2% tax on income from savings (interest) and property rental from April 27, making the tax either 24% or 44% depending on the highest rate of tax you pay.

A 55p per mile tax-free mileage rate for those driving up to 10,000 miles for work has been made permanent, with the rate rising from 25p per mile to 35p for any miles above that distance

The budget didn’t make many changes that effect businesses or tax payers. Below is the first of a few announcements made that will make a difference.

NEW STATE PENSION TAX ALLOWANCE

From April 2027, if your total annual income is not more than full new State Pension (£13,037 per annum) you will not pay tax. So this is £94 extra tax free.

If your total income is slightly higher then for every £3 you earn above, you lose £1 of this extra allowance.

So if you earn £13,186 (£150 above) you would get a 'Pension Tax Allowance' meaning you pay £44 less tax than otherwise (£94 minus £50)

So if total income is over £13,319 you won't receive the extra allowance.

HMRC will automatically apply this allowance you will not need to claim it.

While we're all making the most of the summer, our office has been becoming extremely hot during the afternoons. Unfortunately, due to the layout of the building and the lack of external walls, installing air conditioning isn't an option.
To ensure we can continue providing you with the best possible service in a comfortable and productive environment, we'll be temporarily changing our opening hours to 8:00am – 3:30pm, with immediate effect until 1 September 2026.
If you need to meet with us after 3:30pm, we're still happy to accommodate you by appointment.

Second significant change

From 25 June to 1 September 2026, the reduced 5% rate of VAT will apply to eligible services including: Children's meals served in restaurants for consumption on the premises — defined as meals served from a children's menu and marketed, presented and priced as children's meals.
