Holiday let owners, did you know?

One of the biggest misconceptions we come across is that the person who receives the income or manages the property automatically pays tax on all of the profit.

Following the abolition of the Furnished Holiday Let tax regime in April 2025, many property owners are finding that their tax position isn’t quite as straightforward as they thought.

📢 Big changes are coming to Companies House filing requirements.

From April 2028, small companies and micro-entities will need to file a Profit & Loss account with Companies House as part of wider reforms aimed at improving transparency and modernising the filing process.

Some of the key changes include:

✔️ Profit & Loss accounts will need to be submitted
✔️ Annual accounts must be filed using approved software
✔️ Paper and web-based filing methods will be phased out
✔️ Businesses are expected to be able to choose whether their Profit & Loss account appears on the public register

Whilst these changes are still a couple of years away, it’s worth being aware of what’s coming and ensuring your bookkeeping and accounting processes are ready for an increasingly digital future.

If you’re required to make Payments on Account, now is a good time to check:

✔️ How much is due
✔️ Whether you’ve set money aside
✔️ Whether your circumstances have changed since last year

The deadline has a habit of arriving much faster than expected!

Significant changes to charity accounting and reporting are being introduced, with the new Charities SORP applying to accounting periods starting on or after 1 January 2026. Key changes include new reporting tiers based on charity size, updated accounting rules and enhanced trustee reporting requirements.
