P11Ds – are you ready for the deadline? 📄

If your limited company provides benefits to employees, you may need to submit a P11D to HMRC.

A P11D is required where staff receive benefits such as:
• Company cars 🚗
• Private medical insurance 🏥
• Other taxable benefits provided by the business

These benefits must be reported to HMRC as the company is required to pay National Insurance on them.

📌 Key deadlines to remember:
• 6 July 2026 – P11D submission deadline (for the tax year ending 5 April 2026)
• 22 July 2026 – Payment of any Class 1A National Insurance (if paying electronically)

Getting this right and on time helps avoid penalties and ensures compliance with HMRC requirements.

It’s never too early to complete your Tax Return 🧾

Many people leave their Self Assessment until the deadline, but getting it done early has real advantages.

By submitting your return sooner, you’ll know exactly what tax is due in January – giving you time to plan ahead and set funds aside, rather than facing an unexpected bill.

Even better, if your tax liability turns out to be lower than expected, there may be options to review and potentially adjust payments on account later in the year (for example in July), depending on your circumstances.
Early completion = better control, better planning, fewer surprises.

Important CIS updates from April 2026 ⚠️

If you work in construction or use subcontractors, there are some key changes to the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) you need to be aware of.

From April 2026, contractors must either:
• Submit a monthly CIS return (including nil returns where no subcontractors are used), or
• Notify HMRC in advance if no subcontractor payments will be made that month
📌 The “nil return” requirement has been reinstated and with it, a full late filing penalty regime.
That means penalties for late CIS returns can now include:
• £100 fixed penalty for a late submission
• £200 further penalty after 2 months
• Tax-geared penalties from 6 and 12 months (minimum £300 or 5% of liability at 6 months)

HMRC have also strengthened enforcement powers around fraud risk. In certain cases, Gross Payment Status (GPS) can now be removed immediately, along with penalties of up to 30% and extended reapplication periods of up to five years.
These are significant changes for contractors and subcontractors alike.

📌 If you’re a tradesperson or construction business and unsure how these updates affect you, CFW can help you stay compliant and avoid unnecessary penalties. Call us on 01536 713555

What is your business really worth – and what could that value help you achieve? 📊
Business valuation isn’t just for when you’re looking to sell. It can also be a powerful tool for:
• Raising finance or investment for growth 💼
• Planning expansion
• Bringing in partners
• Strengthening long-term strategy

Buyers and funders look beyond profit – they focus on stability, systems, and how transferable the business is.

Even if you’re not planning an exit, understanding these factors can help you build a more resilient and investable business.

📢 Payroll Reminder: P60 Deadline Approaching
If you run payroll, this is your reminder that P60s must be issued to all employees by 31st May.

A P60 summarises each employee’s total pay and deductions for the tax year ending 5 April and it’s an important document for things like tax returns, loan applications and financial records.

Key points to remember:
✔️ You must provide a P60 to every employee who was on your payroll on 5 April
✔️ It can be issued digitally or as a paper copy
✔️ The deadline is 31 May 2026 so don’t leave it until the last minute

Missing the deadline can lead to unnecessary complications, so it’s worth getting this ticked off your list early.

If you need support with payroll processes or staying compliant, we’re here to help. Call us on 01536 713555

Are you getting it right with Making Tax Digital? 🤔

Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax is now live and for many self-employed individuals and landlords, that means submitting quarterly updates to HMRC.

But here’s the key question…
👉 Are your quarterly submissions accurate?
Your updates don’t just tick a compliance box – they directly feed into your tax estimate.

If your figures are off, you could end up:
• Paying more tax than expected 💸
• Or even overpaying without realising

MTD is designed to give you a clearer, real-time picture of your tax position – but that only works if your records are correct and up to date.
With more people being brought into MTD from April 2027, now is the time to make sure your processes, and software, are working for you.

📌 If you’re unsure whether you’re getting it right, it’s always worth speaking to an accountant. Call CFW on 01536 713555

❗⚠ Using AI as Your Accountant? ⚠❗

AI is transforming the way we access information but when it comes to your finances, it’s no substitute for professional accountancy advice.

We’re seeing more and more people turn to AI tools for guidance on tax returns and financial decisions. While it can be helpful for general information, it doesn’t understand your unique circumstances, the latest legislation, or the nuances that can make a real difference to your finances.

Relying on AI alone could mean missed opportunities, costly mistakes, or even compliance risks.

At CFW Accountants, we combine expertise, experience, and a real understanding of your business to give you advice you can trust.

Before you make any big financial decisions speak to a professional.
