Kingston & Co

Kingston & Co But we also believe in helping our clients flourish. We feel this is best achieved by working by the following principles. Every client is different.

Kingston & Co is an independent Accountancy firm, based in the south-west, offering expert tax planning, forecasting and reporting solutions to individuals, charities and small businesses in the area. Kingston & Co was founded in May 2017.

At our core, is our exceptional support and delivery of Companies House and HMRC compliance, relieving clients of their respective filing responsibilities and

achieving maximum tax efficiency through our expert knowledge of UK accountancy and tax rules. Partnership

Giving clients peace of mind that their reporting obligations are taken care of is satisfying for us. But we aim to equip our clients with the tools needed to understand their accounting position, in order to make sound financial decisions for the future. To achieve this, we like client interaction to be fluid and ongoing, rather than centred purely around the filing deadlines. Flexibility

Whilst we will always promote best practice, we don't believe in the one size fits all approach. Our Practice employs a range of accountancy and bookkeeping solutions, and as a result can offer a truly bespoke operating process, tailored to the skills and working practices of our individual clients.

Transparency

Clients, particularly those that are starting out in business, need the assurances of a fixed price in order to work with a stable cost base. Furthermore, all clients need to know what they are paying for and when. We want you to have no surprises and pledge never to undertake chargeable activity without the client having full understanding of it first.

Rather refreshingly, particularly for people like me who’ve made a habit of summarising fiscal events, we no longer have budgets every few months.

Today’s spring statement was an economic update essentially, accompanied by the usual OBR forecast, signing off on the tax changes announced in the autumn, and committing them to statute.

Slight caveat, these forecasts won’t have taken into account the impact of the recent troubles in the Middle East.

The government’s Making Tax Digital (MTD) initiative is expanding, and the next phase — Making Tax Digital for Income Tax Self Assessment (MTD for ITSA) is set to be implemented in April 2026, the beginning of the next tax year.

This change will affect how millions of self-employed individuals and landlords manage their tax affairs.

Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year!

Office Closure

A quick reminder that the office closes tomorrow evening Friday 19th December, reopening bright and early Monday 5th January.

A bungling, cobbled-together, sign off video featuring Dr Karl for your displeasure:

Getting ready for 2026 is a great way to spend quieter moments during December, and nothing says Christmas quite like strategic business planning.

Here are 24 small but meaningful ways to get ready, to send you into the New Year with clarity, purpose and perhaps even some calm.

Getting ready for 2026 is a great way to spend quieter moments during Advent, and nothing says Christmas quite like strategic business planning. I’ve put together 24 small but meaningful ways to get ready — one for each day — to send you into the New Year with clarity, purpose and perhaps even...

A quick refresher of the fiscal rules which underpin tax and spend policy in the UK.

Day-to-day spending should be funded by tax revenues, not borrowing, by 29-30

National debt should be falling by 29-30

Welfare spending should be subject to a pre agreed cap

We were expecting to come into this announcement having to make up another budget shortfall, however due to higher-than-expected tax revenues, no fiscal repair job was required.

Thanks to the OBR, I had an extra hour to prepare this today. Thoughts are with the over-keen office junior who had prepped the press release and accidentally pressed ‘publish’. No doubt that person can be found in some Whitehall pub now after a tough day. A quick refresher of the fiscal rules w...

Mandatory ID verification is soon to be implemented by Companies House for Officers and some Shareholders of UK Companies.

If you are a Company Director, Company Secretary or a Person with Significant Control (PSCs), you are in scope for ID verification and you may have already received notification from Companies House either by email or letter.

Here's what to do:

Mandatory ID verification is soon to be implemented by Companies House for Officers and some Shareholders of UK Companies. This is a major change to company law, the aim being to prevent fraud and improve the accuracy of company records. This means that before certain filings or appointments can be....

This is an important update on the next phase of MTD, a subject that will ultimately affect all clients at some point in the future.

Whilst many of you are well into your digitisation journey, MTD does have a profound affect on the method and frequency of how we record and submit our information to HMRC.

The government’s Making Tax Digital (MTD) initiative is expanding, and the next phase — Making Tax Digital for Income Tax Self Assessment (MTD for ITSA) is set to be implemented in April 2026, the beginning of the next tax year. From a stability point of view at least, thankfully no changes to the tax system for the upcoming tax year, over and above what we already know about.

Rather than tax tinkering, it was a spring statement made to preserve fiscal rules put in place to limit the reliance on borrowing.
