For many business owners, the working day doesnโ€™t end when the meetings do.

There are payroll approvals to review, compliance deadlines to meet, reconciliations to complete, and reports to prepare. Individually, these tasks may seem manageable. Together, they can absorb the time and attention needed for growth, people, and strategic decision-making.

As businesses grow, this pattern becomes more common. The operational layer expands, often faster than the systems and capacity designed to support it.

At RSM Zambia, our Business Process Outsourcing team works with businesses to strengthen that foundation, supporting bookkeeping, payroll, reporting, cash flow management, and statutory compliance so leadership teams can focus on direction rather than administration.

If this reflects your current reality, it may be worth considering whether your operating model is still serving your next stage of growth. Get in touch today: https://www.rsm.global/zambia/service/outsourcing

With effect from 1st June 2026, the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) reinstated the Withholding Value Added Tax (WVAT) system for six major mining companies, following its suspension on 1st August 2025.

Under this arrangement, designated WVAT agents will withhold VAT on taxable supplies at the point of payment and remit it directly to ZRA within the prescribed timeline. Suppliers to the listed mining companies will be issued a Withholding VAT Certificate by the appointed agent.

The reinstated companies are: Konkola Copper Mines Plc, FQM Trident Limited, Kansanshi Mining Plc, Lumwana Mining Company Ltd, Mopani Copper Mines Plc, and Chambishi Copper Smelter.

If your business supplies goods or services to any of these companies, now is the time to review your invoicing processes, supplier contracts, and VAT cash flow projections to ensure full compliance with the reinstated WVAT requirements.

RSM Zambia is ready to support you in understanding your obligations, updating your compliance processes, and ensuring full alignment with ZRA requirements. To find out how we can assist, visit us at: https://www.rsm.global/zambia/service/tax

For the first time in years, Zambiaโ€™s inflation is back within the Bank of Zambiaโ€™s 6 to 8 percent target range. This shift in price stability has created room for a more accommodative monetary policy stance.

In response, the Bank of Zambia has cut the Policy Rate by 25 basis points to 13.25 percent. While this is important, the bigger story is that inflation has fallen from 11.2 percent in December 2025 to 6.8 percent in April 2026.

This improvement has been supported by a stronger Kwacha and a good maize harvest, signalling a more stable economic environment for businesses.

However, the outlook still calls for caution. Global oil prices remain elevated due to geopolitical tensions, while domestic fuel costs have increased. Government measures such as suspended excise duty and zero-rated VAT on petroleum products have helped reduce pressure. There is also a risk of El Niรฑo conditions from mid-2026, which could affect agricultural output and hydro energy generation, both significant factors in food and nonfood inflation.

What this means for businesses:
โ—พMonetary policy is easing, but gradually
โ—พExchange rate stability has improved, but external shocks remain a risk
โ—พThe outlook is better, but still uncertain

At RSM Zambia, we help businesses translate macroeconomic shifts into practical decisions across tax, treasury, and investment strategy.

Earlier this week, we were delighted to welcome students from the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Student Chapter at The Copperbelt University for an educational visit to our office.

The visit provided valuable exposure to internal controls, compliance systems, corporate governance, and the practical application of internal audit principles.

The session was led by our Assistant Audit Manager, Ruth Tembo, who shared insights into the profession and the role of internal audit in supporting effective governance and risk management. Students also heard from our HR Manager, Edith Mbulo, on career and recruitment opportunities within the firm, while Prasitha Prasad, Associate Director โ€“ Audit & Assurance, shared additional professional perspectives.

At RSM Zambia, we are proud to support the development of future professionals by sharing knowledge, fostering meaningful dialogue, and creating opportunities for practical learning.

A big thank you to the students and faculty advisors for an engaging and insightful visit. The timing of the visit during Internal Audit Awareness Month made the occasion especially meaningful, reinforcing the importance of the profession and inspiring the next generation of internal audit professionals.
