The interim EMP501 reconciliation closes Saturday 31 October. If your March–August payroll declarations, payments and IRP5 data don't reconcile, now is the time to address any discrepancies.

Common last-minute issues we're fixing for new clients this week:
• EMP201s that don't match what was actually paid over
• Employees with missing or invalid tax numbers
• Payroll changes that haven't been correctly captured

"Wait — does the 23 October deadline even apply to me?" Great question. 🤔

Quick guide:
YOU'RE NON-PROVISIONAL if you earn a salary with PAYE deducted and little else. → Your deadline: 23 October 2026.
YOU'RE PROVISIONAL if you earn income without PAYE - think business profits, freelancing, significant rental or investment income. → Your filing deadline: 22 January 2027. But you pay tax twice a year in advance (that's the "provisional" part), with the second 2027 payment due at the end of February.

Here's what a missed filing deadline can really cost you:
1. Admin penalties: R250 to R16,000 PER MONTH, based on your taxable income - every month the return stays outstanding, the meter runs
2. Interest on any unpaid tax stacks on top
3. Your compliance status takes a knock (hello problems with tenders, financing and clearance certificates)
4. Refund due to you? SARS won't pay it out while you're non-compliant
