💰 The R2.3 Million Tax Threshold: What South African Businesses Need to Know in 2026

There’s a new number small businesses need to know: R2.3 million.

From 1 April 2026, the compulsory VAT registration threshold increased from R1 million to R2.3 million, while the qualifying annual turnover limit for the Turnover Tax regime has also increased to R2.3 million.

For growing businesses, this could mean less administration and more room to grow — but it’s also a good time to review your current tax and accounting structure and make sure it still works for your business.

✈️ Travelling Overseas? New SARS Requirement Now in Effect

From 1 July 2026, all travellers entering or leaving South Africa by air, land, sea, or rail are required to complete an online Traveller Declaration before travelling.

The new South African Traveller Management System (SATMS) allows travellers to declare goods, including currency, through a convenient online platform before arriving at the border.

While travellers who haven't completed a declaration won't be refused entry or exit, SARS encourages everyone to submit their declaration in advance for a smoother travel experience.
