OUTCOMES MATTER, SO WE WORK WITH THE BEST 📈

Here’s what AIM being a Xero Partner actually changes for you - not just the partnership, but the outcome.

It means when you call us with a question about your business - we’re not waiting on a bank statement or paperwork to answer it. Your numbers are kept current, easier to access and ready to support a real conversation.

It means the advice we give is based on what’s happening in your business this week, not what happened three months ago. That’s the difference cloud accounting makes - not less paperwork for its own sake, but faster, better-informed decisions for you.

Curious what your numbers could tell you in real time?

Contact AIM to find out how we and Xero can change your business:

5 SIGNS YOUR BUSINESS HAS OUTGROWN ITS BOOKKEEPING 5️⃣

None of these five things mean your bookkeeping is wrong. They mean it’s incomplete.

Swipe through, and be honest about how many of these sound like your business right now.

A good bookkeeping setup tells you what happened. A good advisory partner tells you what it means, and what to do next. Most growing businesses need both, and most only have the first.

If two or more of these sound too familiar, it’s worth a conversation, not necessarily a change of provider, just a proper look at what’s currently missing.

Comment the word “REVIEW” and we’ll set up a free consultation with you.

MEET ROLINDA 👋🏻👋🏽👋🏿

Behind every set of financials is a person who actually cares whether your business does well.

This week, meet Rolinda, manager at AIM. She spends her days leading the team, managing client relationships and overseeing accounts, audits and client portfolios. And through it all, she values relationships and the quality of interactions between the team and our valuable AIM clients.

What Rolinda will tell you, if you ask: the best client relationships aren’t the quiet ones. They’re the ones where you’re comfortable picking up the phone with a “can I just run something past you” question - before it becomes a problem.

That’s the kind of partner we’re trying to be for every client on our books.

Say HELLO to Rolinda in the comments 👋

ADVISOR, NOT JUST ACCOUNTANT 🤝

"Advisor, not just accountant." It's a good line to say, but what does it actually mean, day to day?

It means the difference between someone who tells you what already happened in your business, and someone who helps you decide what happens next. Between someone who opens your file once a year, and someone you would call before a big decision.

That's what "more than compliance" means to us. Compliance keeps you safe. A real partner moves you forward. AIM is built to do both - under one roof, with people who know you and your business, not just your numbers.

So, honestly: who's really looking after your business right now? A once-a-year compliance check, or a constant partner who is walking with you every step of the way?

If it's the first one, message us the word "PARTNER" - let’s see how AIM can move your business forward, with purpose.

LAST DAY TO FILE, BUT WHAT DOES YOUR RETURN TELL YOU? ⚠️

If you’re a non-provisional individual taxpayer, 23 October is your line in the sand, and SARS doesn’t move on this one.

But here’s the more useful way to think about the next few days: your tax return isn’t just a form to get off your desk. It’s a full year of financial decisions, summarised in one document. Filed correctly, it’s compliance. Read properly, it’s a planning tool for the year ahead.

Before you file, ask:

• Did this year’s numbers surprise you, and why?
• Are there deductions or allowances you might be missing?
• What would you do differently next year, based on what this return shows?

Still need to file, or want a second look before you do? Get in touch; we’ll make sure the deadline is the least interesting part of the conversation.

VAT IS GOING DIGITAL 💡

SARS is moving towards a more digital VAT environment.

In August 2026, SARS released its VAT Modernisation Consultation Paper, outlining proposed changes to VAT administration in South Africa.

Nothing changes to your VAT201 submission tomorrow. The proposals are still under consultation and implementation is expected to be phased.
But the direction is clear.

What is SARS proposing?
The future VAT environment could increasingly be built around:
• Electronic invoicing
• Electronic reporting
• Greater integration between business systems and SARS
The goal is to bring VAT compliance closer to the underlying transactions and, over time, enable more sophisticated data analytics, AI-driven risk detection and greater automation.

Why should businesses pay attention?
There is no need to panic or immediately replace your accounting systems.
But the quality of your accounting data matters.

Businesses relying on manual processes, incomplete records, inconsistent coding or disconnected systems may find the transition more challenging.
Accurate records, good processes and integrated systems will put businesses in a stronger position.

And the benefits go beyond SARS - better accounting systems can already improve visibility over cash flow, profitability and business performance.
Technology does not replace good accounting.

Digitalisation can make compliance more efficient, but incorrect information processed faster is still incorrect.
Strong accounting controls, review and professional judgement will remain essential.

As technology handles more repetitive tasks, accountants can focus more on interpreting information, identifying risks and helping business owners make better decisions.

What should businesses do now?

There is no immediate new VAT system to implement.

But businesses can start asking:
• Are our records accurate and up to date?
• Are we relying on unnecessary manual processes?
• Do our systems integrate properly?
• Can transactions be traced to supporting documents?
• Are we using our accounting information to actually manage the business?

South African tax administration is becoming more digital, data-driven and integrated.
Businesses that invest in good systems and good financial information today will be better prepared for what comes next.

5 SIGNS IT'S TIME FOR A FINANCIAL SPRING CLEAN 🌱 Swipe through to see if any of these sound familiar.

September marks the start of spring, and it's not a bad time to give your finances the same treatment as your junk drawer.

If your budget hasn't been touched since before the last interest rate change, or you couldn't say what your retirement annuity is actually invested in, that's sign one and two.

If your will still mentions an ex, an old address, or a business you no longer own, or you'e not sure whether you're a provisional taxpayer, add those to the list.

And if your "emergency fund" is more of a feeling than an actual account, that's sign five.

None of these are dramatic alone.
Together, they're usually a sign your financial plan hasn't kept up with your life.

The AIM team offers a full financial health check covering tax, retirement, estate planning and everyday budgeting, all in one conversation. Contact us:

IT'S BRAAI DAY 🇿🇦🔥

24 September means one thing above all else: the fire goes on, rain or shine.
Fun fact for your braai small talk: Braai Day was started in 2005 by Jan Scannell, better known as Jan Braai, who left a career as an accountant to build a national day around a fire and some boerewors. Two years later, Archbishop Desmond Tutu became its patron, and it's been a fixture on the calendar ever since.

We can't promise our accountants will trade their spreadsheets for tongs any time soon, but we do love that a fellow numbers person started one of SA's favourite traditions.

However you're spending today, we hope it's with good company, good meat, and zero admin.

Happy Braai Day from all of us at AIM.

WE ASKED THE BENONI TEAM A FEW IMPORTANT QUESTIONS… 🎤

We put our Benoni team on the spot and let the questions fly:
Is a braai ever cancelled? What problem do you solve for clients every single day? Rugby or cricket? We asked, they answered, no scripts, no second takes.

This is not the last one - what would you like us to ask the team? Leave it in the comments 🔊
