EMP501 interim reconciliation closes 31 October

Employers: The EMP501 Deadline Is This Saturday

The interim reconciliation window closes on 31 October, which is this Saturday.

If you have not submitted yet, this is the week to get it done.

A quick reminder of what has to be reconciled:

🔸 Your monthly EMP201 declarations for March through August
🔸 The PAYE, UIF, and SDL actually paid over to SARS
🔸 Your IRP5 and IT3(a) certificates for every employee

Two things that commonly hold submissions up:

🔸 A missing or invalid tax reference number for an employee, which SARS will reject 🔸 Figures that do not match between your declarations, payments, and certificates

Late submission carries a penalty of one percent of your annual PAYE, charged for each month you are late.

Leaving it to Friday afternoon is a gamble not worth taking.

Not going to make it on your own? Send us your payroll today and we will submit for you.

Missed the deadline, what to do now, plus provisional taxpayer heads-up

Missed the Filing Deadline? Here Is What to Do Now 🔧

If Friday passed and your return is still not filed, do not ignore it.

That only makes it worse.

The moment a non-provisional return is late, SARS can charge an administrative penalty.

It recurs every month the return stays outstanding, so the single most important thing is to file now and stop the clock.

Once your return is in, if you had a genuine reason for missing it, you can lodge a Request for Remission asking SARS to reduce or cancel the penalty.

Grounds like serious illness or circumstances beyond your control carry the most weight.

A quick note for provisional taxpayers.

Your deadline is later, on 22 January 2027, but do not let it drift.

Starting early is always easier.

Behind and not sure where to start?

Send us your details and we will get you compliant.

Deadline-day last call (23 October)

Today Is the Deadline.

This Is Your Last Call 🚨

If you are a non-provisional taxpayer and you have not filed your 2026 return, today is the day.

The deadline is the close of business today, Friday, 23 October.

After today, an administrative penalty starts, and it recurs every month until the return is in.

So if it is still sitting on your to-do list, please move it to the top.

Filing itself is quick if your documents are ready. IRP5, medical aid certificate, retirement annuity certificate, and proof of any other income.

Log into eFiling, check the figures against your records, and submit.

If you are stuck, out of time, or simply want it done right, message us now.

There are still hours on the clock, and we would rather help you beat the deadline than sort out penalties next week.

Two-days-to-go filing checklist

Two Days Left. Here Is Everything You Need to File âś… The non-provisional filing deadline is this Friday, 23 October.

If you are filing yourself, do not let a missing document be the thing that trips you up. Have these ready before you start:

🔸 Your IRP5 from every employer
🔸 Medical aid tax certificate
🔸 Retirement annuity contribution certificate
🔸 Bank interest certificates, IT3(b)
🔸 Records for any rental, freelance, or side income
🔸 Proof for every deduction you plan to claim

Log into eFiling, work through each source of income, and check the pre-filled figures against your own documents.

SARS gets a lot right, but not everything, so the review is on you. If anything looks off or a certificate is missing, sort it today, not on Friday afternoon. Short on time or unsure? Send it all to us and we will file it for you before the deadline.

Final week filing urgency and late-filing penalties

This Is the Final Week. The Filing Deadline Is Friday ⏰ If you are a non-provisional taxpayer and you have not filed, this is the week it has to happen. Your 2026 return is due on Friday, 23 October. Miss it, and SARS does not simply send a reminder.

An administrative penalty kicks in, and it is not a once-off. It recurs every month the return stays outstanding, from R250 up to R16,000 a month depending on your income. From 2026, these penalties reach far more individual taxpayers than before, so this is not a risk worth taking.

The good news is that filing now takes the whole problem off the table. If your documents are in order, a return does not take long.

Left it late and feeling behind? Do not panic.

Send us your paperwork and we will file before Friday.

Reading your ITA34 notice of assessment

You Have Filed. So What Does Your ITA34 Actually Say? Once you submit your return, SARS sends back an ITA34, your notice of assessment. It is worth reading properly, not just glancing at the total.

Here is what to look for:

🔸 A minus amount means a refund is coming your way
🔸 A positive amount means you owe SARS, and there will be a due date to pay by
🔸 A note that you have been 'selected for verification' means SARS wants supporting documents, usually within 21 business days

Your Statement of Account shows the fuller picture, including older balances. If a refund is due and your banking details are correct, it is normally paid within a few days. And if you disagree with the assessment, you have the right to dispute it.

Not sure how to read yours, or how to respond? Send it through and we will explain it.

Festive-season cash flow planning

The Festive Season Is Closer Than It Looks.

Plan Your Cash Flow Now 🎯

October is the quiet moment before two very noisy months.

November and December bring higher sales for some, higher costs for most, and a January that is famously slow.

Smart businesses use October to get ahead of all three.

A few things to line up now:

🔸 Forecast December and January together, not just the busy weeks
🔸 Set aside cash for bonuses, leave pay, and supplier accounts that fall due
🔸 Chase outstanding invoices before clients disappear on holiday
🔸 Remember your tax and payroll obligations do not pause in December

The businesses that struggle in January are usually the ones that spent December without a plan.

A little foresight now protects you from a cash crunch later.

World Financial Planning Day, calculating your net worth

World Financial Planning Day: Do You Know Your Number? 📊

This week marks World Financial Planning Day, on 8 October.

It is a good prompt to ask a question most people never do.

What are you actually worth?

Your net worth is a simple sum. Everything you own, minus everything you owe.

Add up your assets:

🔸 Cash, savings, and investments
🔸 Retirement funds
🔸 Property and vehicles

Then subtract your liabilities:

🔸 Home loan, car finance, and credit cards
🔸 Any other outstanding debt

The figure you are left with is your real financial position, and it is more honest than your bank balance on payday.

Track it once a year and you will see whether you are truly moving forward, or just staying busy.

A budget tells you where your money goes.

Net worth tells you where you stand.

Want help building a plan around yours?

Let us map it out with you.

Filing deadline early nudge, file before 23 October

The Filing Deadline Is This Month. Beat the Rush đź“…

For non-provisional taxpayers, the 2026 return is due on Friday, 23 October.

That is less than three weeks away.

You can file now, and there are good reasons to.

Here is what filing early buys you:

🔸 Refunds are usually paid within a few days once everything reconciles
🔸 Time to track down a missing certificate without the pressure
🔸 A calmer run at eFiling, before the late-October traffic builds
🔸 No risk of a penalty for slipping past the date

Waiting until the final week is where the stress and the system slowdowns live.

If your documents are ready, there is nothing to gain by holding on.

Auto-assessed and happy with it?

You are already sorted.

Everyone else, let us get your return in early and off your mind.

Send us your paperwork.

Mixing Business and Personal Money? That Is a Problem đźš©

It starts innocently.

A business expense on your personal card, a bit of company cash for groceries, all sorted out 'later'.

Later rarely comes.

Here is what blurred finances cost you:

🔸 You cannot see whether the business is actually profitable
🔸 Deductions get missed because expenses are buried in personal accounts
🔸 SARS queries become a nightmare when records do not separate cleanly
🔸 If you trade as a company, drawing money the wrong way creates tax headaches

The fix is simple, even if it takes discipline.

Open a dedicated business account.

Pay yourself a set amount, and keep every business rand on the business side.

Clean separation means clean books, accurate tax, and a real view of how you are doing.

Struggling to untangle the two? Let us help you draw the line properly.
