RA (Retirement Annuity) Season - The end of the tax year is upon us. For those of you who would like to save a little tax, you could always top up your Retirement Annuity with a lump sum before the end of February. The exciting news is that you can claim up to 27,5% of your remuneration package or taxable income as a tax deduction into retirement funds. This includes provident fund, pension fund and Retirement Annuities contributions, so there is lots of scope for everyone to increase their Retirement Annuity contributions. There is a cap for high earners at R 350 000. You can do this through either a monthly debit order, lump sums or a combination of the two. Best you start early in the tax year if going the debit order route.

A friendly reminder that we recommend investments through Unit Trust Linked companies with much lower running costs, no penalties if you stop or reduce payments and 1800 awesome Unit Trust funds to choose from. In general with RA’s remember

• Contributions are tax deductible at your marginal rate of tax,
• All the growth in the fund is tax free,
• Protection from creditors and on insolvency,
• Favourable tax treatment of the benefit when you retire, including the tax free transfer into a living annuity, where the growth is also tax free.
