1. GENERAL INFORMATIONS:
Coffee trees appeared in Vietnam from the 19th century. Over a long period of existence and strong development, along with suitable climate, wind, topography and soil conditions, Vietnam ranks 2nd in the world in coffee production, just behind Brazil. The International Coffee Organization informed that Vietnam's coffee exports about 25 million bags / year with an average value of $ 3 billion.
When referring to the coffee growing lands in Vietnam, first of all to mention the Central Highlands provinces with famous coffee growing areas such as Cau Dat, Nui Min, Tram Hanh (Lam D**g) and especially Buon Ma Thuot ( Dak Lak).
2. HOW MANY KINDS OF COFFEE IN VIETNAM?
There are 2 popular kinds of Coffee in Vietnam
* ARABICA COFFEE
- This is a kind of coffee with slightly long beans, grown at an altitude of over 600m (in Vietnam mainly grown in Lam D**g).
- Arabica coffee is harvested, then fermented (soaked in water to bloom ...) and then washed and dried. So Arabica taste slightly sour. This is also considered a distinctive feature of this coffee. People often compare that sour taste like when we eat lemon, it will be very sour. But immediately saw the bitter taste of the peel. The way to feel the sour taste of coffee is the same.
* ROBUSTA COFFEE
- This is grown at an altitude of less than 600m, tropical climate, compared to sea level with a cool climate, a lot of rain, so it is very suitable for Robusta coffee so in Vietnam, this type accounts for more than 90%
- The seeds are smaller than Arabica, and are dried directly. Not fermentation. Bitter taste predominates. This drink is more intense.
3. HOW ARE THE EXPORT STANDAND OF VIETNAMESE COFFEE:
The quality of green coffee is classified and approved according to the TCVN 4193: 2001 process. The first is to take a sample for approval. Once the sample is taken, an analysis will be performed - determine if the standard is based on defects in the sample coffee bean. The important criteria include: black seeds, broken, mold, impurities, particle size ... Based on the number of defects, we will get the ranking results.
The following are the export standards of grade 1 coffee
Moisture: 12,5% max
Black& Broken beans: 2% max
Foreign matter: 0.5 % max
Other coffee beans : 0.5% max
>90% on Screen No: 18 (7.1mm)
Packing: 60kgs
