Small Business owners are people too! Spot on!

Blue collar is not Amazon Prime.

We as humans have become so accustomed to the click-and-deliver world that we forget people aren’t a commodity.

My wife saw a post on Sunday asking if anyone knew a cheap landscaper who could come mulch their house that same day.

Think about that for a second.

People have no problem paying for the best doctor.
The nicest car.
The expensive purse.
The newest phone.

But when it comes to the people who actually keep this country running?

They want the cheapest plumber.
The electrician that “doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.”
The daycare that’s “just babysitting anyways.”
The landscaper who can drop everything on a Sunday and work for next to nothing.

Blue-collar workers are human beings.
They have families.
Ball games.
Cookouts.
Birthdays.
Exhaustion.
Bills.
Dreams.

And most of them built their skill through years of sacrifice, mistakes, experience, licensing, injuries, overtime, and showing up when nobody else would.

You’re not paying for someone to “just install an outlet.”
You’re paying for the years it took them to know how to do it safely, correctly, and confidently.

We can’t preach support local while treating skilled labor like it should be instant, cheap, and disposable.

Respect the people who build, fix, wire, repair, raise, teach, clean, deliver, and show up every single day.

This is exactly why all small business owners need a bookkeeper and an accountant.

Taken from a thread I belong to on Facebook. The last paragraph is significant.

"As a tax preparer (or CPA), my expectation is that the financials come to me with all balance sheet accounts reconciled/tied out, and the P&L looks good, such as no big dollars in miscellaneous, reconciling differences, ask my accountant, etc. Payroll wages & taxes should tie out to the payroll returns and W2's.

As far as year end adjustments, those are typically depreciation expense, adjusting inventory to actual, accruing expenses and/or revenue (if applicable), etc.

You can look for what types of year end adjustments are typically done by running a report for JE transactions dated on the last day of the month.

Once you know that, you should be able to piece together most year end adjustments (if not all) by comparing the tax return to the books. That is if you have that comfort level - not everyone does. This is also if the tax preparer/CPA isn't in the habit of sending over the JE's.

In other words, from my side, I ask that the bookkeeper do as much as they can first, and then come to me.

Please realize a couple things - one is that that the tax preparer/CPA might not be compensated for doing any accounting, and that might be part of why they have an expectation that the bookkeeper does it. Also, they are slammed right now. So it might not be they aren't willing to help - it might be they don't have the bandwidth until tax season is over.

Created in 2023 (also by PSI), Thank Your Pet Sitter Day encourages pet parents to show gratitude to the professionals who care for their animals year-round.

Of course, we're extremely grateful to our clients for entrusting their pets' care to our team, but we couldn't do what we do without the individuals that dedicate mornings, evenings, days, and weekends to the care of companion animals in Yorktown, Poquoson, Newport News, and Hampton, VA.

To our team, we hope you know how important you are to our community. Your knowledge, professionalism, commitment to quality, and tireless dedication deserves more than a day or a week, it deserves to be (and is!) celebrated all year long! 👏👏👏
