🚨 Important Tax Season Reminder: Check for Offsets! 🚨

Before filing your taxes, make sure to call the offset line to check if your student loans (or other offsets) are listed.

📞 Offset Line: 800-304-3107
(Note: IRS offsets will NOT show on this line!)

If your student loans are listed, here’s what to do:

1️⃣ Call 1-800-433-3243 to find out who holds your loans.
2️⃣ Contact the loan servicer directly and take the following steps:

✳️ First Question to Ask:
“Do I have any months left eligible for forbearance or deferment?”

You might qualify for forbearance if you are:
✅ Experiencing financial hardship (medical expenses, changes in income)
✅ Serving in AmeriCorps
✅ Working in a medical/dental internship or residency
✅ Serving in the National Guard
✅ Working toward Teacher Loan Forgiveness
✅ Paying high student loan payments compared to income

You might qualify for deferment if you are:
✅ Undergoing cancer treatment
✅ Experiencing economic hardship
✅ In a graduate fellowship program
✅ Enrolled in school at least half-time
✅ Performing qualifying military service
✅ A Parent PLUS borrower with a child enrolled in school
✅ Enrolled in a rehabilitation program
✅ Unemployed

✳️ If you don’t qualify for deferment or forbearance, here are your options:

✅ Loan Rehabilitation:
• Make 9 consecutive monthly payments based on income.
• Once enrolled, request removal from the offset list (often immediate).

✅ Loan Consolidation:
• Combine defaulted loans into a new Direct Consolidation Loan.
• Agree to repay under an income-driven plan or make 3 consecutive payments.
• This process can take 6–8 weeks to stop offsets.

✅ Repayment in Full:
• Pay off the loan balance entirely to clear the offset.

Don’t let unexpected offsets delay your refund—take action today! 💼
