Be Prepared For 1099!

The annual filing of the Form 1099 is due by January 31, 2025. Let’s get into some questions you may ask about 1099s:

1. What is a 1099?

A 1099 is a tax form from the IRS that shows income for the year ended for contractors / vendors. If you're an employee, you'll get a W-2, not a 1099.

2. Who gets a 1099?

It depends on how an entity is set up for federal tax classification on the Form W-9. An entity set up as S-corporation typically does not need a 1099.

3. What is the threshold amount for getting a 1099?

For the year ended, if an entity got paid income of more than $600 from a client then expect to receive a 1099 from that client.

4. Where can I get the most current Form W-9?

You can obtain it from the IRS website here: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf. (please copy & paste to browser if hyperlink doesn’t work)

For additional questions and if you need help filing 1099s, please DM me. The race starts January 1, 2025 and IRS will only give you 31 day to furnish a 1099. So let’s end the year strong going into 2025! 🥂 🥳
