We have been made aware of an attempted phishing scam posing as our office requesting payment for invoices via ACH or Wire. We are actively investigating this issue, if you have received an email from anyone in our office with ACH or Wire instructions to pay invoices, please delete the message and inform us if you have attempted to send payment this way. The following is an example of a message you may have received:

“We are currently operating under a fully paperless policy in Accounting for compliance and reconciliation purposes. Can you kindly confirm which would be most suitable between an ACH or a Wire transfer for processing of your upcoming payment?”

Social media can be a resource for up-to-date tax information, but taxpayers should be mindful of what accounts they’re following for tax advice. With inaccurate or scam advice being shared it’s important that taxpayers get tax-related information from IRS verified social media accounts or e-news services which can be found here on the IRS website.

Tax Tip 2025-53, July 31, 2025 — Social media can be a resource for up-to-date tax information, especially with the many changes to the federal taxes in 2025. However, taxpayers should be mindful of what accounts they’re following for tax advice. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of inaccurate or s...

We’d like to remind you of the FinCEN Beneficial Ownership Information Reporting (BOIR), a new requirement for businesses as of 2024. This new requirement is part of the Corporate Transparency Act, a law created as part of the U.S. government’s efforts to make it harder for people to hide gains through shell companies or opaque ownership structures.

There is no fee or payment due with the reports. If you receive mail for services to file for you for a fee, they are solicitations and you can file directly through FinCEN’s website for free.

For businesses registered with the Secretary of State prior to January 1, 2024 you will have until January 1, 2025 to complete the report. For businesses created in 2024, you will have 90 days from filing with the Secretary of State to complete the report.

To file your report online, please visit: https://fincen.gov/boi
For more information on who needs to file and how, please visit: https://fincen.gov/boi-faqs

*The personal information required for each owner and the liability placed on our company prevents our office from preparing these reports on your behalf.

Please feel free to reach out to our office if you have any questions.

FinCEN has prepared the following Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) in response to inquiries received relating to the Beneficial Ownership Information Reporting Rule and Beneficial Ownership Information Access and Safeguards Rule.

Please be advised that over the next few weeks you may be receiving mail and emails regarding filing your North Carolina Secretary of State Annual Report. These are usually from companies not affiliated with the NC Secretary of State trying to solicit you to use them to renew your LLCs for a fee.

You can file your Annual Report online directly through the NCSOS website linked below, or we can file it for you as we complete your tax return. We do not charge for our time on this, only reimbursement for the state’s fees will show on your tax return invoice.

Medicare scam calls are on the rise, and we’d like to remind you that government agencies will only contact you through notices in the mail, they will never call unexpectedly and ask for your information over the phone. Never give out personal information such as medical or bank account numbers, Social Security information, mother's maiden names, passwords, or any other identifying responses on an unexpected call.

Robocall scams can often seem random, but that's not always the case. Sometimes they are highly targeted - as with older Americans whose Medicare eligibility opens the door to health insurance fraud.

Tis the season for holiday celebration, but also for fraud. There is an increase in check fraud around the holidays which can happen from physical checks being stolen from mailboxes and altered, or scanned images of checks being sold on the internet to gain access to bank information.

Some ways you can protect yourself from check fraud include ordering your checks from a reputable vendor with industry-standard security features printed into the checks, writing with a black gel pen which is harder to “wash” from the paper if stolen, having your mail held at the post office if you’re traveling for the holidays, and paying bills online when possible.

We wish you a safe and happy holiday season! For more information, visit:

Holiday Scams. For most of us, the holidays are full of giving, getting and goodwill. Criminals use holidays to take advantage of people’s generous spirits.

Businesses must electronically file Form 8300 for cash payments over $10,000

Beginning Jan. 1, 2024, businesses that file 10 or more information returns must e-file Form 8300, Report of Cash Payments Over $10,000, instead of filing a paper return.

Businesses that receive more than $10,000 in cash must report transactions to the U.S. government. Information reported on Form 8300 can help uncover tax evaders, criminals profiting from the drug trade and others committing potentially criminal conduct.

The requirement for e-filing Form 8300 applies to businesses that are required to e-file certain other information returns such as Form 1099 series and Form W-2.

E-filing is free and secure
Many businesses have already found the free and secure e-filing system to be a more convenient and cost-effective way to meet the reporting deadline of 15 days after a transaction. They get an email that confirms when the IRS receives the form after they e-file. Businesses can batch e-file their reports, and this is especially helpful to those required to file many forms.

For more information, businesses can call the Bank Secrecy Act E-Filing Help Desk at 866-346-9478 or email them at [email protected]. For more information about the BSA E-Filing System, businesses can submit a technical support request at Self Service Help Ticket. The help desk is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.
