Meet Allison Mattson!

Allison joined Westberg Eischens in January after graduating from the University of Sioux Falls with a degree in Accounting. Having previously interned with the firm, she was able to hit the ground running and jump right into busy season as a member of our Audit Department.

A Willmar native, Allison enjoys baking, hiking, and spending time with friends and family when she's away from the office.

We're excited to have Allison as part of our team and look forward to all she will accomplish in her public accounting career!

🌟 Summer Intern Spotlight: Introducing Hannah Bredesen! 🌟

We’re excited to introduce Hannah Bredesen, a Summer Accounting Intern at Westberg Eischens! Hannah is a sophomore at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota, majoring in Accounting.

This summer, Hannah is looking forward to gaining a better understanding of the many career paths available within accounting. She’s excited to explore different areas of the profession, gain hands-on experience, and learn more about what accountants do every day.

Hannah chose accounting after taking several accounting classes in high school and discovering how much she enjoyed them. She loves that accounting is like solving a big puzzle and enjoys the challenge of putting all the pieces together.

Fun fact: Hannah played hockey for nearly 15 years! 🏒

When she’s not working, Hannah’s favorite way to spend a summer day is at the lake, surrounded by her favorite people. ☀️🌊

🌟 Summer Intern Spotlight: Introducing Olivia Olson! 🌟

We’re excited to introduce Olivia Olson, a Summer Accounting Intern at Westberg Eischens! Olivia is a junior at Minnesota State University, Mankato, majoring in Accounting.

This summer, Olivia is looking forward to gaining hands-on accounting experience in a variety of areas while exploring which path within the profession she would like to pursue in the future. She’s excited to learn how accounting works in a real-world setting and build on the knowledge she’s gained in the classroom.

Olivia chose accounting after taking her first accounting course in college and discovering how much she enjoyed it. She was hooked right away and declared accounting as her major that same semester.

Fun fact: Olivia has recently gotten into golf and enjoys spending time on the course whenever she can! ⛳

When she’s not working, Olivia’s favorite way to spend a summer day is relaxing at the lake and ending the evening with a bonfire. 🔥☀️

Minnesota business owners: there’s good news in the new state tax bill 👇

✅ The Pass-Through Entity Tax (PTET) has been extended through 2027.

What does that actually mean?

For many S Corporations and Partnerships, this is a tax-saving option that may help reduce the impact of federal tax deduction limits by allowing state taxes to be paid through the business instead of personally.

The new bill also includes:
➡️ The extension applies retroactively starting January 1, 2026
➡️ Penalties may be waived for missed Q1 2026 estimated payments if the Q2 payment is made on time

While this doesn’t apply to every business, it could create valuable tax planning opportunities for many Minnesota business owners.

⚠️ IRS Notice Scam Alert – CP53E Letters ⚠️

We want to make clients aware of recent IRS CP53E notices requesting taxpayers update banking information for direct deposit refunds.

While some of these notices are legitimate, scammers are also sending fake versions that look very convincing — often including QR codes or links designed to steal personal and banking information.

🔎 Important things to know:
• Some notices may have been sent in error, even to taxpayers who owe money or applied refunds to 2026 estimated taxes.
• The AICPA has advised that no action is recommended at this time unless further guidance is issued by the IRS.
• If you are expecting a refund and do not respond, the IRS has stated they will issue a paper check after approximately six weeks.

🚫 For your protection:
• Do NOT scan QR codes on unexpected IRS notices.
• Do NOT click links or provide banking information from a mailed notice.
• Instead, go directly to www.irs.gov and log into your IRS account to verify any correspondence.

If you receive a CP53E notice and are unsure whether it is legitimate, please contact our office before taking any action. We are happy to help verify the notice and keep your information safe.
