Should you hire a CPA or an EA?

A common misconception that people face when choosing someone to file their taxes is feeling like they MUST hire a CPA. Another professional license to look for when doing your research is an Enrolled Agent, or an EA.

EAs are tax professionals licensed by the IRS. They specialize specifically in tax and have the ability to represent clients in front of the IRS if that becomes necessary.

EAs are constantly studying the tax law and put the ins and outs into practice for individuals, small businesses, etc.

Is there really no tax on tips or overtime? 🤔

For high-tax states, these are some of the headline changes:

🍽 No tax on tips
• For 2025 through 2028, eligible workers can deduct up to 25,000 of qualified tip income.
• It reduces federal taxable income.
• It is not a full exemption and it phases out at higher income levels.

⏱ No tax on overtime
• You may deduct the overtime premium portion of pay up to 12,500, or 25,000 if married filing jointly.
• Income limits apply here as well.

🏠 SALT deduction increased to 40,000
• Beginning in 2025, the federal SALT cap rises from 10,000 to 40,000, or 20,000 if married filing separately.
• The benefit phases down at higher income levels and is scheduled to sunset after 2029 unless extended.

We got the holiday weekend started a little early yesterday with an end-of-tax season celebration at the game! Our staff has worked tremendously hard all year and we are greatly appreciative for their hard work and all that they do around the office.
