🚨 A BIG CHANGE IS COMING FOR RETIREMENT SAVERS

Beginning with the 2027 tax year, the new Saver’s Match will replace the current Saver’s Credit for most retirement contributions.

Eligible taxpayers may receive a federal retirement contribution equal to:

✅ 50% of the first $2,000 contributed
✅ Up to $1,000 per person
✅ Up to $2,000 for a married couple if both spouses qualify and contribute

Unlike the current credit, the match will generally be deposited directly into the taxpayer’s eligible retirement account even if they do not owe any federal income tax.

For 2027, the match phases out between:

• $20,500–$35,500 for single filers
• $41,000–$71,000 for married couples filing jointly
• $30,750–$53,250 for heads of household

One important catch: the income calculation adds back pretax retirement contributions, and recent IRA or retirement-plan withdrawals may reduce the match.

The Saver’s Match will be claimed on the new Form 8880-A when filing the 2027 tax return. Additional IRS implementation guidance is still coming.

💡 Have you heard of Massachusetts Use Tax?

Many people assume that if sales tax wasn’t charged when they made a purchase, they’re in the clear. In some cases, that’s not the case.

If you buy taxable goods from an out-of-state retailer or make an online purchase and Massachusetts sales tax wasn’t collected, you may be required to report and pay Massachusetts Use Tax.

Examples may include:
✔️ Furniture
✔️ Electronics
✔️ Appliances
✔️ Other taxable items purchased outside Massachusetts and brought into the state

The rules can be confusing, but understanding your obligations can help you avoid unexpected issues later.

🏡 Massachusetts Short-Term Rental Owners: Don’t Forget About Room Occupancy Tax

✔ Register your rental through MassTaxConnect
✔ Collect and remit the Massachusetts Room Occupancy Excise
✔ Pay any applicable local excise and fees based on where your property is located

During the Massachusetts Sales Tax Holiday, most retail items priced at $2,500 or less (per item) purchased for personal use are exempt from the 6.25% Massachusetts sales tax.

This is a great opportunity to save on everything from electronics and furniture to clothing, appliances, home goods, and more.

Please note: Some purchases are not eligible, including motor vehicles, boats, meals, alcoholic beverages, to***co products, ma*****na products, utilities, and any single item over $2,500.
