Penn Station Subs Reopens to Honor Late Owner, Seeks Community Support
WESTLAND, MI—Penn Station Subs on North Wayne Road in Westland, a fixture in the community for nearly 25 years, is reopening its doors today, November 18th, just over a week after the passing of its dedicated owner, Kevin Pilon.
The restaurant, located at 8425 N Wayne Rd in the Holiday Plaza, has been a labor of love for the Pilon family since Kevin and his father, Dave Pilon, first opened it 24 years ago.
Kevin Pilon, described as a great man by his family, passed away on November 7th. His wife, Cari Smith Pilon, is now leading the effort to keep the restaurant running to honor her husband’s legacy and commitment to the business, its employees, and its customers.
“Kevin put his heart and soul into this restaurant,” Cari Smith Pilon shared. “He loved his employees, customers, and everyone who supported Penn Station over the years. We want to honor how hard he has worked over these many years.”
Over the decades, the restaurant has faced numerous challenges, including economic shifts, multiple road closures, the COVID-19 pandemic, and bridge closures. Now, the Pilon family is navigating this tremendous personal loss while striving to maintain the quality and service that made Penn Station a local favorite.
The family is asking the Westland community and loyal customers to stop by this week to show their support. Not only will every order help the family continue the business, but customers are also encouraged to share stories or memories of Kevin Pilon to help celebrate his life.
The Pilon family hopes to continue making subs for the community as a tribute to the man who made the restaurant what it is today. They hope to see you soon! Penn Station 8425 N Wayne Rd Westland MI 48185.
