💔 The Coffee Deduction Is Gone—
Here’s What That Means

This is one of those tax changes that catches people off guard.

For years, providing coffee n snacks small refreshments in the workplace was standard and deductible.

That changes in 2026.

The deduction quietly disappears. What was 50% deductible through 2025 drops to 0% in 2026 for employer provided break room food and beverages.

The twist? Employees still get the benefit tax free. These items remain classified as de minimis fringe benefits so the tax burden shifts entirely to the employer.

Tax Tip: Start identifying these costs now and model the after tax impact. What used to be a partially deductible expense is now fully nondeductible...this can add up more than you think!
This is one of those rules that doesn’t feel aligned with how businesses actually operate but it’s now part of the landscape.

SCDOR statement on Income Tax conformity; April 15 filing deadline extended for SC returns
The SCDOR is aware that the South Carolina Legislature is working on House Bill 3368 to conform with the current Internal Revenue Code, including the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). If passed, the SCDOR will provide additional information as soon as possible, including guidance for taxpayers who have already filed their 2025 Individual Income Tax returns.

"We understand that taxpayers may need additional time to file, so we are automatically extending the tax filing due date for all 2025 South Carolina Individual Income Tax returns to October 15, 2026.

No action is required to take advantage of this filing extension.

This extension applies only to the deadline to file your return, not to pay what you owe.

You will owe penalties if you do not pay at least 90% of your 2025 tax liability by April 15, 2026.

MyDORWAY is the fastest, easiest way to pay your balance. Visit dor.sc.gov/pay and select Individual Income Tax Payment to get started.

If you are expecting a refund, you don’t need to do anything except file your return by October 15.

Six years of unfiled tax returns (2019–2024)?!

You may not need to file them.

Tap in! Some tax years expire under the statute of limitations.

Filing everything at once can actually trigger red flags and audits.

If you owe over $10,000 or haven’t filed taxes, and you’re making $2,500 or more per month, you could request tax forgiveness in 2026.

Most of my clients are saving over $25,000 by using these programs and avoiding audits for their past back taxes.

I can help verify if you need to file your back taxes.

The 50% Childcare Credit for
One Owner Businesses 🚨

Do you operate a sole proprietorship or own an S or C corporation?

If you’re paying for childcare and assumed the new 50% credit doesn’t work for you, this is for you.

Many one-owner businesses dismiss this credit because of DCAP rules or wage inclusion concerns. That can be a costly mistake.

Taxable wages don’t automatically kill the deal. Even when the benefit must be included in income, the 50% credit plus the deduction can still leave you thousands ahead. Don’t assume—run the numbers!!

a sole proprietor household can net $7,600—and how a solo S corporation owner can still pocket $6,400—even after paying tax on the wage inclusion.

understand where the real power lies. The driver is the 50% dollar-for-dollar credit. When combined with the deduction, it often overwhelms the added tax cost. The math matters—
If you own a one-owner business—or advise clients who do—this is one credit you shouldn’t ignore without seeing the full picture.
