Recently i saw a post that the stock market sucks on a retirement page. As an investment advisor it all depends on how you are positioned as you enter retirement.

All I can say is that I have worked with many who are approaching retirement who have portfolios who are way to risky.

This is the time to throttle down on risk and to create a consistent stream of income and not for speculation. For my clients I do not push commission based product or private placements.

The time to de-risk is 3 - 5 years or more prior to retirement and invest in treasuries, preferred stocks, and common stocks with regular predicable dividend distributions. Most of our clients have been with us for 10 + years.

Again not a solicitation just some free advice. I wish all a comfortable retirement.

Over the last month there has been a rotation occurring from the 7 high flying tech stocks (Nvidia, Amazon, Apple, Meta Platforms, Microsoft, and Tesla) into the stocks that have been overlooked for the past several year. These are companies that do not have as much growth as the Magnificent 7 however their earnings are steadier and pay decent dividends. Last night Nvidia reported strong year over year sales growth and earnings however the forecast going forward underwhelmed the market.

These companies still have incredible days ahead of them but it remains to be seen how much of a selloff will occur before they find their footing.

Always stay diversified and have some dry powder to invest when opportunities present themselves. Lastly you will never go broke taking profits.

Dell reports after the close tonight which could either give a little support to the tech sector or give more reason for the selloff to continue.

All that everyone is talking about are tariffs.

The one for Mexico was put in place over the weekend and today the Mexican govt agreed to assist with 10,000 troops at the border to prevent illegal crossings and fentanyl being trafficked. Next thing you know they put a 30 day hold on the tariff.

The market at 4:00 am today was down 6-700 points on the dow...now buyers are stepping in. Those who sold at the open are probably feeling some regret.

Invest in quality and hold for the long term. When the fear mongering gets to be to much just turn off the news.

Markets have really been on a tear ever since the election. Regardless of which party you support the reality is that the markets so far a liking the change. I spoke with many clients just before the election that wanted to go into all cash due to the fear that goes along with the uncertainty of a new administration. We advised clients to just stay in and ride it out. With that said we will never place trade or position portfolios for the short term or betting on the outcome or a specific event. But the best and hold for the long term.

It's good to be back.
