Wacky Wednesday… You Can’t Make This Stuff Up

There was a case where a dependent was denied. The client made their case — the dependent lived with them full-time, didn’t work, and they paid for everything!!

The IRS still denied the dependent.

The dependent?

Their dog. 🐶

We always joke about how nice it would be to claim our pets…but someone actually tried!

The IRS reports that the 2026 tax filing season has started a bit slower than last year, with fewer returns filed in the first few weeks. However, there is good news for early filers — the average refund amount is higher than at the same time last year.

This is likely due to recent tax law changes, updated deductions, and withholding differences throughout 2025.

As always, every taxpayer’s situation is unique. Refund timing and amounts can vary based on credits claimed, income changes, and filing accuracy.
