📚 WORD OF THE WEEK: Jurat
A Jurat is a notarial act where the signer must:
✔️ Appear in person before the notary
✔️ Sign the document in the notary’s presence
✔️ Swear or affirm that the contents are true ✍️
During a jurat, the notary also administers an oath or affirmation to confirm the signer is telling the truth.
📄 Jurats are commonly used for:
• Affidavits
• Sworn statements
• Court-related documents
💡 Simple: A jurat confirms both the signer’s identity and the truthfulness of the document’s contents.
