• Contributions must be made in cash to IRS-qualified charities

— Child and Dependent Care Credit increased to a maximum of $1,500 for one qualifying individual and $3,000 for two or more qualifying individuals for 2026 and beyond:
• Employment-related expense limit remains $3,000 (one qualifying individual) / $6,000 (two or more)
• Applicable percentage increases to a maximum of 50%
- This max. rate may be reduced to no less than 20% if AGI exceeds $75,000 (single) / $150,000 (MFJ)

— 529 Plan Enhancements:
• Qualified expenses expanded to include:
- Tuition at elementary and secondary schools
- Certain tutoring costs (subject to restrictions)

Happy New Year!

- Now is a great time to wrap up your books. This will help with our next tips.

- 1099-NECs may be due to certain contractors by 1/31/25.

- 1099-MISCs may be due to landlords and those who rent/lease you certain vehicles, equipment, etc. by 3/31/25 (if filed electronically).

- Other 1099s may be required and due as soon as 1/31/25.

- BOI reporting appears to still be tied up in the courts. As of 1/1/25, reporting appears to be voluntary. We would recommend that you file your initial report(s) ASAP if you have not already done so.

- Q4 2024 estimated federal and MI tax payments are due 1/15/25.

- Income tax returns will be due soon. Now is a great time to do the above steps, gather your personal and business tax documents, fill out (and submit if ready) any tax organizers, and pay any retainers for 2024 tax prep.

Please contact us ASAP if you would like assistance with any items listed above.

Here’s to a smooth and hassle-free 2025 tax season!

Great article as always by taxgirl. There is great info. here about the government spending bill very recently passed and the status of BOIR.

Among many other topics, I learned more about Form 4506 Request for Copy of Tax Return. Each return is $30 and is accompanied by its attachments. This is a great option in place of, or in addition to, (free) tax transcripts.

What was your favorite topic brought up in this article? Did you learn anything practical that you can apply in your business or personal life?

Do you feel like this is enough of an increase? Should it have been increased further?
