Important Reminders for Employers
If you are a business owner or employer, all W-2s and 1099s must be issued to employees and contractors by January 31, 2026.
Reminder for Taxpayers- Donโt File Too Soon
Please be mindful that not all income documents arrive in January. Certain documents are commonly received in mid-February, including:
โข 401(k) and retirement distributions
โข Investment income and losses
Filing your tax return too early without all required income documents can result in errors, delays, or amended returns later.
If you are missing income documents, the IRS typically uploads Wage and Income Transcripts to IRS.gov toward the end of February.
Create Your IRS Online Account
We strongly encourage all taxpayers to create an online IRS account.
Using ID.me, registration is simple with an email address and cell phone number. Your IRS account allows you to:
โข View up to 7 years of tax history
โข Access wage and income transcripts
โข Monitor IRS notices and activity
