"Does forming an LLC allow me to deduct more expenses?"
Short answer - No. An LLC is a legal structure, not a tax benefit. The IRS doesn't allow extra deductions just because you formed an LLC.
The IRS allows a business to deduct all expenses that are considered ordinary and necessary. If you are running a business, and incur expenses that are ordinary and necessary, you can deduct those on your tax return, whether or not you have an LLC.
Some things to keep in mind:
- The IRS wants you to keep your personal finances separate from your business finances. It's as easy as opening a small business checking account.
- Keep your receipts to document the business purpose.
- Keep track of your business and personal mileage.
