Just a heads up as we've received several calls related to delayed tax refunds...

The IRS has approximately 31 million tax returns pulled for manual review and it's causing unusually long delays in refunds getting sent out.

Keep in mind that the IRS has been tasked with several responsibilities this year outside the typical scope of their duties, like stimulus checks, SBA grants, not to mention the mid-tax-season changes to unemployment compensation and affordable care act credits.

If you track your refund on the IRS website and it says "Your tax return is still being processed" the only thing we can really do at this point is wait.

Almost 31 million returns are being held for manual review, delaying refunds. "I depend on that money," one taxpayer says.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

We are excited to announce that Landmark Tax Services LLC is MOVING!!!

Over the next few weeks we are going to be relocating our office to 12 Plum Street, Verona, PA 15147.

Our business has outgrown our current location and we needed room for more staff.

Our new office is bigger, beautiful, and by the way... you won’t need to climb 22 steps to get into it.

Our move begins May 1st so if you have an appointment prior to that it’ll be at the same location as before, but if you’re scheduled AFTER May 1 we will call you and give you directions to our new location.

We couldn’t be happier about this move and we can’t wait to show you all around our new office!

So it's April 15th and what we used to call "Tax Day." The past two years this hasn't been the case. What a crazy tax season it's been, and is continuing to be.

As you are probably aware, taxes are NOT due today. The federal and state governments have automatically extended the deadline to May 17th.

As many of you are sighing a breath of relief keep in mind that it's still not a good idea to put this off until the deadline. The IRS has been given the responsibility of handing out stimulus checks, adjusting returns for anyone with Unemployment Compensation, among other things, all while working with less staff and in "COVID" work from home fashion.

We've seen refunds take longer and anything that has to be filed by paper is taking an eternity to get processed.

Update for our PA clients!

Pennsylvania Department of Revenue has officially announced a tax deadline extension to match the Internal Revenue Service.

May 17th is the new deadline for PA Income Tax Filings AND Payments!

It's official.

The IRS has announced that it is extending the tax deadline for tax year 2020 to May 17, 2021. This is an extension to FILE and PAY.

However, for our Pennsylvania clients, the State has not yet announced whether it will follow along with the IRS' new filing deadline.

Even though the deadline has changed, we still recommending filing as soon as possible due to the fact that the IRS is likely to get even more behind in sending out refunds due to being tasked with stimulus checks.

If you're ready to get your taxes prepared and you're having a hard time getting an appointment you can always drop off your tax documents and we can prepare them without having to sit with us! You can drop off your documents anytime, no need for an appointment!

The IRS is pushing back the deadline for the tax filing season about one month, to May 17 from April 15.

2020 Tax Season Update - 3/17/2020

The IRS just announced that tax season will be extended. As of right now they’re planning on setting the new deadline as either May 15th or May 17th. The reason for the unclear deadline is that May 15th is a Saturday and historically when Tax Day falls on a weekend the following Monday becomes the new deadline.

We are predicting that this year will be the same and this years tax deadline will be May 17, 2021.

Important Tax Update - 3/11/2021

The stimulus package passed by Congress this week made 2 important changes to the 2020 tax code.

- If you received unemployment benefits in 2020, the first $10,200 in benefits are now being considered TAX EXEMPT.

- If you purchase your health insurance from the Marketplace and you had to pay back an Advanced Premium Credit, they are now WAIVING the repayment for 2020.

If you've already filed, YES we can amend your return. However, not yet. We are still waiting for guidance from the IRS regarding how to go about amending these returns.

We will keep everyone updated as we learn the process.
